Title: Floor Pan Question???
Post by: Shubee2 (DSK) on September 02, 2009, 13:06:18 pm
I Have a Floor Pan Question? I put new Floor Pans in My 58 and I am putting the Pan Back Together and ran into A small Problem I am using the early Pedal Assy. but the Stop for the Pedals is to short so the pedal are angled to far toward the Driver has anyone else had this problem? its not a hard fix I just need to make a New Pedal Stop but I was wondering if someone has had the same problem and how they fixed it? or is there another year stop that is longer? Thanks in Advance for Any Help?? ;D ;D

Yes, yes, yes! When you fitted the driver's side floorpan, by moving it back, or forward for whatever reason..... you have relocated the exact position of the pedal stop mount. I ran into this problem on my '67 (the recent floorpan story in Hot VWs), and noticed the same slanted pedal assembly issues. I ended up taking the stock pedal stop bracket, and MIG welding a small piece of steel/MIG rod along the front edge to increase its thickness. By beefing up this bracket, I was able to correct the problem. Since that time, I can not tell you how many "slanted" pedals I have seen on cars (with obvious pan replacements).

Wow! 1/2-inch is a bunch. Mine (Wolfsburg West) pan was only about 1/4-inch off.

I hear ya! A Subaru conversion requires lots of often overlooked adjustments.
