Title: A little drive in the sunshine...
Post by: Fastbrit on September 16, 2009, 21:49:13 pm
Well, I got tired of all these photos of people driving in SoCal, so today I took Bluey, my ’65, for a spin... :)

You have to start the day with a coffee, so here I am waiting for my brew...

My friend Terry's place, Terra Nova in Lostwithiel…
(http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t318/Photokernow/DSCF0230.jpg)

Right, out on the road. This is Grampound, an old village with a narrow main route through the middle:

Well, lookee here. A Nissan Skyline GTR. The poor guy tried to get away up a hill, but couldn't...

Arrived at the workshop where I work on my car (thanks Ben and Anthony) to discover Ant's custom Brasilia getting ready for a photo shoot tomorrow
(http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t318/Photokernow/DSCF0243.jpg)

Then it was off to Fowey, a small town near me with very narrow streets. The tourists hated the A-1 muffler.

Oops! Traffic got jammed, so the restaurant looked inviting...

Ah, the traffic's moving – but not very fast as it's still narrow!

What's this? A river to cross?

OK, so it's onto the ferry – just watch the ground clearance, OK?

Phew! Made it!

Everyone say hello to the most bizarre tourist attraction in Cornwall!

Nearly home. These roads are very narrow...

Whoa! A gate!

Ah, home sweet home – for the Bug, if not for me!

Stablemate – a rusty Alfa (and no, it's not mine!)

That's all folks! :D

Funny, I was on that ferry on Sunday wondering whether or not my oval would get on it. Shame you weren't around Fowey on Sunday, would have loved to have had a closer look at the car.

The video is nice Keith! You just needed three or four other Bugs on the road with you to make that drive perfect.

 ??? ;D
How can it be the wrong side of the road if the car takes up the entire road?

Ever recall the Beach Boys song "The only surfer boy in New York"? That's me... :(

During that entire video, I kept screaming, "Will you please pass those dweebs. Mash on it!" I know first hand, exactly what that car feels like. Good show.

:D :D :D The trouble is, I was holding the steering wheel AND camera with one hand, while trying to shift with the other. Every time I went for third or fifth, I steered left... ;D

What all the background noise in the video hides is the fact that, even with 43mm venturis and 42mm inlets, the engine pulls from 2000rpm without a hiccup. Deano can vouch for that.  :)

Swap the A1 for dual QPs and piss off the tourists on BOTH sides of the road! ;)

Keith, I believe the song you are referring to is "New York's A Lonely Town".  This song was not done by the Beach Boys, but by a sound alike group, The Tradewinds".   :) :)

How about Jim Croce’s “New York’s not my home”? That song applies to you as well, right?  :D

You know what, JL? You're dead right!

And as a reward, here's another piece of video!  :D

Love that backlash in the trans – and the howling clutch release bearing  ::)

Keith, you say I'm dead right, but I feel like I'm just dead  ::) ::) ::)  Music of that era I seem to have a gift to remember.  Christie has called me Mr. Trivia for years.  On occasion she has used other names, but I best not go there.... :o :o :o :o

Great pics and video Keith.
Looks a a fun drive.
Just looks a little strange to see the cars coming at you on the opposite side of the road.
See you around.

Loved the video! Just like my neck of the woods...except,  we would have several blind intersections and the pubs just closed.

Now, that's more like it! Only VW people appreciate the screaming IDAs, howling ring and pinion and A-1 muffler blap. Music to my ears (except that wierd T.O. bearing moan....).

My car does that.  I just pretend I have expensive, noisy transmission parts.
