Tell me how this is done guys! I wrestled with one for a half an hour today and I only accomplished to break in to a heavy sweat. :P

HELP!

Put the deflated tube into the tire.
then insert front half of the rim into the tire making sure not to pinch the tube and that the stem lines up with the hole.
Insert rear half of rim making sure the o-ring is in place into the tire.
Make sure the bolt holes line up from front to back and bolt the two halfs together.
Inflate tire.

Those are not going on the GTV are they? with the Killer 1600?  ;D ;D

Thanks Richard, I just tried that exact same method (albiet sans o-ring), got the wheel halfs bolted together, 20lbs of air in the tire... and... what's that noise?? >:(

It's leaking from the valve stem area. The tube is not pinched. The valve stem exits the tube at about a 45 degree angle, and the valve stem hole in the wheel is perpendicular to the wheel. This is making me think that when the tube is aired up the pressure is causing the area around the valve stem to split due to the an awkward angle it needs to make to exit the wheel(?) Any ideas??

On the GTV, yes. With the 1600, no.

On the plus side, it does look pretty bitching, even though I've got to do it over :)

that looks incredible! but how come your going to mount slicks on the GTV? i suppose they are for the 1995 engine?

About the noise... could it be the air around the tube that wants out?

I have done this with 8s and 5s, and the method described previously is the one to go for, it sounds to me that the tubes might be damaged or punctured already. When I did it I sandwiched them all togther, then torqued the nuts up tight, then put the air in, very carefully, then finished torquing up the nuts, doing the nuts opposite each other where possible. As you say, you have to watch you dont pinch the tubes when you sandwich them together! Having written all this you have probably done it all days ago.  :)

On bicycle tires I always inflate the tube just enough to give it a shape.  I would think it might help get the tube in position and not pinch as the halves are going together.

Anothing thing maybe worth trying is mock up just the tube and the rim, you might be able to see what's going on with the valve stem without the tire blocking your view.

The Angle of the valve stem is like that on all tubes just make sure you pull the stem all the way out when putting air in as far as mounting them I always put about 2 to 4 lbs of air in the tube put it in the tire making sure its not twisted then I spray the tube and the tire bead with spray silicone then take the front half of the wheel line up the valve stem make sure to pill it all the way out so it seats against the wheel then line up the back half and pull down on it start the bolts and tighten to spec the spray silicone and the air in the tube keeps the tube from pinching because it's slippery if you here air coming from the valve stem hole that is trapped air between the tire and the tube one you get the pressure you want grab the stem and push it down and move it around a bit till all the trapped air is out or just leave it overnight  hope this helps been Doing it for 30 years this way never pinched a tube yet

I did put a little bit of air in the tubes first, and that definitely seemed to help, as was spraying a bunch of Silicone Slide on the tube and tire. I think I need a different tube anyway, as the valve stem on these ones are far too short, only the cap sticks out of the wheel making it very tricky to air it up. I'm going to call Tucker Tire as I hear they are the tube pro's ;)

For now, I'll probably bolt them up to the GTV just to see how they look, but they wont really get used like they should until the big motor goes in (88x84). I had the wheels, I've had the tires for ages (they were the in the first batch made), it was just one of those things that I wanted to get done. I'd like to have a pair for the front, but the offset wont clear the fenders with drop spindles without narrowing the beam. And that AIN'T gonna happen!

I restored the right and center wheels. I still have the one on the left, it's cracked on both halves. It will make a good garden hose, I reckon ;)

on my empi  8 i do this
 first  1had insert the tire on the back side , and after insert the tube into the tires , put some little bit air in the tube , take the front side and put the valves stem  into the hole for the valve
 found this (http://img.alibaba.com/photo/205194711/tubeless_valves_metal_clamp_in_Valves.jpg) to retain the valve after close the 2 side and watch ifthe tube isn't pinch and then to tighten the bolts gently all , until  the moment when the 2 parts are united
to reassure you i used 8 tubes to be able to put 4 of them  ;D ;D

Whats the torque on the bolts??

25ft lbs is what I set them to. I'm sure 5's are different though as they use fewer, and larger nuts.

What tubes should be used? I definitely need some with a longer stem, the guys at Tucker Tire didn't offer much help :-\

my tube are michelin for 165/15  if i remember

Were they for 8 spokes? They worked well? My tubes are Firestones, I need to find some with a longer valve stem, or maybe use an extension if there is such a thing?

i put a longer stem on them when i need to inflate them and the original stem pops back out with the tyrepressure. a flexible one (like on a bikepump) might do the trick as the original stem isn't going in all the way and you'll need the clearance afterwards to be able to inflate the tyre.

firestone tubes is what i run. size was 165 => 175 if i remember correctly.
