Title: 7" Fuches
Post by: Black Sheep on September 18, 2009, 07:51:27 am
Ive been offered a pair of early 7' fuches , while I know the back spacing is the same as my 6's I'm not to sure how their gonna sit on the body line whether their gonna stick out  :-\
The 205 tyres I run at the moment on my 6's ballon out a bit on the rim so Im thinking of keeping this profile tyre on the 7's to have a more upright looking sidewall .
Anyone got some pix of 7's or any experience of running these ?
May have some detailed six's for sale soon  ;)

Not sure if they are late or early but they have a good look on them !

these are late 7s and are really cool.
early 7s are known as the 7R fuchs. they are essentially deep 6s with an inch more backspacing to allow for the fitment of wide tyres on the early 911s.

i like them too. but from what i've seen they fit with running short axles, but i think that if you ran e.g. disc brakes that give a bit more offset they come close to sticking out of the fender. but i'm not sure...

These one's On Rich M's car look like the pair Ive been offered , the rim's on the pics of the others look more angular also my centers look more like an early heart fuch if that makes sense .
Looks like I may have done a deal to get them detailed for a straight swap with my old 6's  8)

Can't find any part numbers on the inside of the wheels , only markings are 7x15 so think they may be replica's .
Castings markings on the face of the wheel are quite rough under and near the painted area .
Think I'll still get them as 7's are'nt to thick on the ground , but Im gonna hang onto my 6's for the mo  ;)

Glenn keep the 6s and put your money toward a new cam and lifters.

The 7s will not make the car go any quicker. :P :D ;D

May not make the car go quickere but talk about make a statement...  7" just give you that big and little look that traditional hot rods have. Personally, I think it completes the stance and look.

bruce, how did you see that?

Look at the 5 triangular holes.  Notice how the hole bends down towards the rim?  Original late 7" Fuchs didn't do that.  Early 7" Fuchs didn't have the same rim profile as the one in this pic.

The wheels on the red car above are also fake.  Nothing wrong with that, they are just heavier, and you have to inspect them for cracks often.

Right then you orrible lot  :D here we go the vote .
In the red corner we have the the current champ an original 6" fuch weighing in at a heathy 13lbs and wearing an Avon 205 70 15 with a 10mm back spacer
(http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff84/49-rag/IMG_4147.jpg)
In the blue corner we have the contender , the rookie , the fake 7" fuch coming in with an weight of 15 1/2lbs and wearing the same Avon 205 70 15 but this tme without a back spacer.
 ;D ;D
Ok guys opinion's please , 7"s are still very rough and need a lot more work , for example I need to look at my centre cap without the back spacer .
But the one thing I do like about these fake 7's are the centre's they look the same as an early 6 , a little detail neither of the two original 7's  have late or early
Just wanted to see if they would work with my narrowed IRS rear end ?

Normally I would say go with the 7's, but since you have the "early 4.5's" up front, I think the best match is a early 6 or 7 in the rear.

Title: Re: 7" Fuches

Gonna run with the 6's , with my IRS set up Ive found found that when I launch the tyre catch's the fender / wing .
Wont be a problem if you run short swing axle's .
So if anyone wants a pair of 7's drop me a PM  ;)
