Title: Lifter question
Post by: Donny B. on September 28, 2009, 22:51:06 pm
I just pulled my engine down and noticed a couple of the lifters have started pitting (just started).  The cam looks pretty good to me.  The lobes just seem polished over the nose with no wear lines.  It just looks good.  I promised myself a while back that if I ever split the case again that I would put in a set of Udo's lifters.  Now the question:  Do I need to change the cam or would it be OK because of the lifters I will be using.  My thinking is that I should be OK with just the lifter upgrade, but I would like comments pro and con.  Thanks!

Apparently that's the beauty of UDO lifters is they last forever, you can change cams, you don't have to keep tract of what lifter goes where, and I think their lighter than other performance lifters?

Hey Don,

New cams are less than $100 and you can find Engles for around $60-$70. Its cheap insurance to not have to worry about reusing a used cam.

I understand, but the cam looks great.  I have had three cams go flat and this one doesn't look like any of them.  I will not reuse the lifters, but I was thinking I could reuse the cam.  Just wondering how many people on here have run used cams...

I run a used cam. I would almost perfer to run a used one, then you don't have to worry about it going flat.

Thanks Udo, I was hoping you would chime in!  I will definitely measure the lift.
