Hi fellow loungers...

Today I put my fresh build 2017cc engine in my bug... Engine is assemled with only new parts, and also a new Kennedy stage 2 pressure plate.... when mounting to the flywheel i noticed that the diagraph fingers pointed somewhat to the inside, and when assembled on the gearbox (in the car) I cant feel any pressure at the clutch pedal , even after adjusting clutch cable!!! ???
Could this be a failure in production, or could there be another explaination?? Maby there is someone who dealed with the same problem...

Hi Dennis, did you remove the ring of the pressure plate? Maybe you have a late model tranny, and you need the extra ring.

i think that the plate is preloaded too much by bolting the plate on the flywheel. losen the bolts and you will see the 'fingers' move outwards. this is either due to a too tick plate or maybe the possition of the plate/ flywheel. check the depth you have on the flywheel.

Hi Sander, the ring is out....That ring is for a non guided clutchbearig.... i drive a guided one. Geers... D

Sounds reasonable....next week end i'm gonna pull out the engine again and take a closer look... And i will order a second Kennedy...just in case..

Today i get the day off, so i dicided to pull out the engine again... took off the kennedy and put an original LUK clutch kit onto it....Put engine back into the car...and.......Same problem..No pressure on the clutch pedal... Engine out again and take LUK off.... Messured Flywheel dept  from friction surface 21mm..... messured an original flywheel 22mm dept!!!!! put 1mm shims between pressure plate and flywheel....looking good. Engine back in the car... GOT PRESSURE!!!!!!!!! Next thing to do is pull the engine out (again) and take flywheel off to some machineguy to take 1mm off......then i'll be good... ;D

I would check the differences in thickness of the friction plates. Never had problems with Kennedy's since they are all german anyway. Just my 2 cents.

Hey Harry, I did messured the thickness of 2 different plates. Got one new DAIKEN disc (without springs) and got one new LUK friction plate (from my 1600 engine) , both messure the same thickness..... Also mounted the Kennedy and the DAIKEN to my 1600 flywheel... NO PROBLEM.... guess the chromoly SCAT flywheel isn't machined well like a VW pizza....

I didn't know you had a new flywheel..... Did you compare it with a (used) german one ?

Jep, did compare it with 2 german ones. The vw flywheels messure both 22mm depth (messured from the surface where the friction material grabs on and the stair where the pressure plate gets mounted. the Scat flywheel I bought has a depth from 21mm..... so it isn't cut deep enough. Looks like a litle bit, but apperently enough to not let the diafragma get enough preload..... And that counts  both for the Kennedy stage 2 (wich seems perfecly alright)  and a stock LUK clutch kit.. So what do we learn? buy the best and buy VW!!! ;D

It is not a problem to shim it out to correct the problem,it should be 21.7mm deep,you can just use washers or similar under the pressure plate where the bolts pass through

Hey Richie, that's what i've did right now using some normal M8 closed plates.... can I leave them in or should I replace them with something that fills the whole area between pressure plate and flywheel? (I'm a bit worried that the pressure plate doesn't contact like it normally would do) ??? ;) Thanks anyway....Dennis

Yes that will be fine,I have run plenty of clutches set up like this

  Well there's your problem!!! It's the extra weight of those washers causing all those wheelies! You really don't need bars.

Hi Sander, engine is running verry well ;). clutch problem solved.... All i need now is some good weather to take the car out.....and some cashflow to buy a decent tranny ;D....

My car and engine are gone.. a while ago. I have started on a new project. I will post some update's soon on the dutch callook forum.

heey Mr Ed ;) I'm doing fine...only have to spend to much time on non vw stuff :D.. Engine runs great, revs till 7500 rpm, wich is supprising because i build it on the mild side... not the fastest engine i believe....but hot enough to scare some plastic bombers 8).. How are you and the type 4 doing?? nice to hear from you!!!

Good to hear engine is running great.
Typ 4 is comming along ok, still waiting on some small parts but have ''try fitted'' it and everything seems to fit.
I have some pictures, will post them on here soon.
