Post by: Jim Ratto on October 20, 2009, 00:50:26 am A friend of mine in high school autocrossed a 1275 Mini that was tuned to kill. Had a 48DCOE coming through firewall into the cabin. If the motor backfired through the intake you'd bbq your knees. Sounded awesome when we wound that little thing out...such a trip to look at the dash and see air stacks.

His name wasn't Marshall was it? This guy in Newark had a Mini with a sidedraft Weberthat poked through into the glovebox. Same guy had an MG Midget and he always wore a leather football helmet while driving it. One day I asked "What's with the helmet?" and he replied "It's a convertible...duhh!".Title: Re: The wrong use of a perfectly good IDA. Can you guess what its on? No, that's an Formula 3 1000cc engine, in a Lotus or something else from the 60` They use a half IDA on their ford engines, really screamers.... Can you guess what its on? Post by: bill stipe on October 20, 2009, 12:30:55 pm An oval track racing group in texas had a rule, any two-one barrels to allow racers to use Kadrons. You know racers, they began cutting ida's in half. I found these in one of those guys stash from the 80's.

Burn you damn thing >:( and free the IDA from it's painful life :'(. May it find a better use on a proper car in it's next :( Title: Re: The wrong use of a perfectly good IDA. Ok , that means they can be ordered . I was told you never do new ones ... Thanks Udo Title: Re: The wrong use of a perfectly good IDA. Can you guess what its on? Post by: 181 on October 22, 2009, 21:10:19 pm excuse my ignorance but what is the story behind those welded up carbs?
Title: Re: The wrong use of a perfectly good IDA. Can you guess what its on? Post by: Donny B. on October 22, 2009, 21:43:53 pm Quote excuse my ignorance but what is the story behind those welded up carbs? I am sure Doug will chime in, but Gene told me a story about them. This was back when PRA was outlawing fuel injection (the Bergs were running Hal-tec fuel injection) Gene decided to make some larger carbs. They used an early IDA as the master for the casting mold. The early IDAs had less meat than the later ones so when the casting came out of the mold they machined through the body of the carb. They welded them up and remachined them. Then the bergs changed the mold and the new Berg IDAs were born. Now if this is incorrect in any way then Doug will probably correct me, but that is pretty much how I remember Gene telling it to me. Damn I miss him! Title: Re: The wrong use of a perfectly good IDA. Can you guess what its on? Post by: Bruce on October 23, 2009, 03:55:40 am I thought they started with a stock 48 IDA, then welded the crap out of the outside so it could be made into a 58. Easiest way to make a prototype.
Title: Re: The wrong use of a perfectly good IDA. Can you guess what its on? Post by: Donny B. on October 23, 2009, 04:21:10 am You could be correct. Guess we will have to wait until Doug chimes in. I am relying on my memory and at my age...
