Title: Which clutch for a type 200bhp
Post by: Lids on November 08, 2009, 21:21:07 pm
I am in the process of having my new engine put together.  Not quite finalized but it will either be 82x94 or 84x94, both using a webcam 86c, IDA's on 44 x 37 heads with about 10:1CR.  So we will be in the region of 200bhp.

What clutch should I use?  Have a KEP stage II, will this be okay, should I change the standard supplied disc to something else?  What are people using?

Choices, KEP, Daiken, Copperhead???

I prefer a stage 2 kennedy and a rag disk- I've been happy with the regular unsprung daiken or valeo disks, but I've been impressed with the chinese kush loc I have in the car currently- really nice and forgiving to drive, but sticks just fine- that's with a 1900+ car/driver and 217 wheel hp.

Hi Mike I use a Daiken woven Clutch Disc with a KEP stage II for the Street and Change to a Berg 3 Puck when I take it to the Track,my motor is a 2332 cc 84X94,5.7 Chevy Rod,Fk46,44x37 CNC Wedge Ports reworked by Steve Tims (237 HP) Both Work Great with No Problems

I'd go for a Kennedy stage II with a Daikin
Im pushing close to 180 bhp and find my stage I slips a bit under load , gonna step up to a stage two "got one today " and try it with my old Daikin .
Hope it will hold onto it a bit better , will let you know  ;)

what about the balancing of the bottom end?  Mine is been dynamically balanced as a complete unit, hence why I need to sort clutch now.

After many different experiments, the KEP 2/Daikin Super is a combo that will work, no questions.

Had my old clutch balanced with the flywheel & crank , probably gonna get the new kennedy stage II spun up with just the flywheel  .
Fingers crossed this shoud be fine , and will keep an eye on it , was possibly thinking bout a bottom end strip down over the winter ,
so if all's not well will get it all spun up together before I bolt it back together

Oh saw a empi ash tray same as your avatar at slough today .

I'm very happy with my KEP Stage 1 and ACE Copperhead disc.

The hotter it gets, the better it grabs.

I have a 2332 cc, Web 86C, IDA's, 44 x 37, 10.5 CR and 180 WHP (~200 BHP).  KEP Stage 2 and Berg dual-friction disc (six years with this disc in total).  Smooth on the street and grips well on the track...best ET 12.9 seconds at 104 MPH so far...

Lids -- -- I would recommend balancing without the clutch ------- just in case you have to replace them down the road or you'll have to disassemble and re balance -- most disc and PP come prebalanced
