Thats the weekend it doesnt rain right? :D  It gives everyone another week to get there cars finished so it has to be a good thing :)  Well except for Martin who has already booked the ferry for the weekend before :o  Guess you need to stay for 3 weeks now martin :D

well I just posted in the other thread but here go's - I will be going in 2010 FOR SURE!!!!

I now have a Golf estate (diesel) and I will be towing/racing the manx so if anyone wants to join me then I will have a couple of spare seats going  :)

Time to step it up lee,they have a rule for 2010 that all cars slower than 11.99 must be driven there and home again so you need to give that buggie some more horses :D

You want to take Dave and his missus then as I have no idea what I will be driving in yet?

Don`t worry Niclas, we asked Skinne if he could mount a trailer hook behind his car. Just remember to strap you car really well. This way you do not even have to worry about your rims  :)

The ski lift principle of Skinne is going to be a hit I guess ;D If Nicolas fits a trailer hook too, Lee can hitch on for half price... with "a bit over 2 kilos of boost" as Skinne said on the SCC movie (out soon), they would still all three make the 11.99 cutoff...  ;-)

don't joke dude we put an uprated supercharger/bigger exhaust/bigger clutch/etc on one of those the other day - it sounded ridiculas!!!!!!!!

Anyway back to the topic - I still have one spare seat going, it also looks like I need to do some work on a roll bar if I wanna race, oh well more money to spend  ::) :)

It must be possible to make a removable rollcage on your manx so you dont permanently mess up the good look of your car.

BUT the rule might not allow it to be "removeable"  :-\ :)

 Were taking the car this year, although i may have to fly home to beback in time for work, but Steve and Steve can drive home ! ;D

I think I have almost convinced Rach that i should be here in August, she is off camping with her girlfriends in May, obviously I didn't put up a fuss, so she has to return the favour :)

Hey Guys, Thanks!

Newcastle to Stavanger no longer runs. We have a couple of options, Immingham ( 45 mins from our house ) to Brevik, or Immingham to Copenhagen. The only difference between driving is Time versus Money!

Both Ferries are around £1400 for two people return, and an extra £320 return for every other passenger. The ferry is approx 32 Hours. It also includes, food, drink and a cabin.

Driving it would cost us 3 days there and 3 days back ?? and i estimate around £500 in fuel, £100 Dover ferry, how much does the other ferry cost ?


Also, what are the details for the hotel near the track ? Thanks!

Dam, I`m getting old. Of course you`re right about the Newcastle - Stavanger ferry. Sorry bout that :) But the ferry terminal in Stavanger is brand new and I know they plan to re-open the UK service. Let`s see what happens. The Hull - Brevik ferry charge pr meter but it takes a day or two if I remember correctly. But then again, Brevik - SCC is only a two hour drive.

If you can manage it and have got the gear, I'd recommend camping at the track. It not only saved me the cost of a multi-day hotel stay, but it allowed me to experience the SCC event 24x7. Also, SCC had a full bathroom/shower setup last year, so staying at the track was no worry.

IMO, there was nothing better than being right in the middle of things all the time, and waking up to the sound of VW engines in the morning was way cool.

Any ideas when you will be setting off and getting back ? Time is more of the essence for us.
Just checked Hull to Rotterdam and then Copenhagen to Oslo, can do everything in a week, but total cost for both ferries is £1200 and thats not including any bloody petrol! Be cheaper to do the ferry direct to Brevik at £1400, with only bit of driving the other side.

You should definitely forget the ferry from Copenhagen to Oslo and drive instead. Cheaper and faster. Or just hang on to Richie all the way, as he know the way blindfolded  ;)

We recommend this hotel http://www.choicehotels.no/hotels/hotel?hotel=NO014&language=en-gb for those who want to stay at one, and there is several others in the area too. But as Eric says, to experience the SCC spirit 100%, you have to camp at the site.

(And this year we will have a absolute silent period between 01:00 and 06:00 to ensure a minimum of sleep for our racers. This will be guarded by our two "gorillas"  :D )

Damn!!! Busted wearing skirt....

Last year we (In Aircooled's so sitting at 65mph or so) we did dover to dunkerque (Cheap was £50 return)

Then drove to Coppenhagen (dilly daddled on the way there took DAYS, but on the way back we left Coppenhagen at 10:30 am and by 10 pm we were well into Holland, By 3am we had made it to 70KM from Dunkerque, and i drove that SOLO, even with lee offering (sorry fella), if you share driving i reckon you could easily get there driving in 18 to 24hrs.

Coppenhagen to Oslo ferry was £250 for 2 people and a van return was nice to have a shower, meal and entertainment on the boat and arriving in Oslo up the Fjord was beautiful, (If your a TOP GEAR fan, it's the same boat that Hammond and May were on (it's a party boat) when they raced against Clarkson driving the SLR Mercades).

we drove the long way round through Denmark so had the Toll bridge at 35 euro but that does avoid the puttgarden rodyn ferry which i seem to remember when looking at it cost enough for me to avoid it!

I regret not driving through Sweden and Norway but lots of people said we didn't miss too much,

Cost me about 8 to £900 in Fuel, i gave up counting eventually but that included my racing, dicking about and generally having a heavy foot with 44 webers ;)

Drive down south and Follow Richie i reckon is your cheapest option and won't take nearly as long as you think it would!

I have a very rough plan for this year which includeds Driving all the way again but this time I'll be in my Mk3 Golf estate (Diesel/400miles per tank) with the manx on an A Frame - I might race it but it will just be cool to have it with me (and for the Show and shine ;)) oh yeah and a little cruz around Oslo  ;D

I have had a quick word with Alex/Jesus and he is coming with me (hopefully) and I am sure I can fit one more in (maybe 2 if needed)

By the way anyone know the "Cage Regulations" for a Buggy WITH a hardtop that is running Low 15's/High 14's ???  ???

This year we are determinate to make a buggy/offroad track also at SCC, so then you can take your Manx for a spin in the forest also.

The E.T. rules states that "soft top" cars must have a rollbar, but I`m not sure if your hardtop goes as one or not. I will look it up for you.

And frank took Der express home 2 years ago like that as well with no problems,we actually had a police car follow us into a petrol station,circle around the T25 and car,have a good look then drive away,it seems like it is proberly to much trouble for them with foreign no plates on the vehicles ;)

It does have some kind of a british log book.
It's my friend's car, we're working on it together. We will try to visit SCC this year. Are there any problems with trailers in your country? We will have polish plates:P

Kev,this car has been around for a long while,its the former Peter Bennet 1303[yep look at that screen] It was a nitrous chassis car and ran 9s proberly 15 years ago,I thought volksworld did a feature on it,maybe with Karl donovans bug eyed as they came from the same era ,its now in poland and belongs to Chris,cant remember his last name,

The stabs at cars with LT/PL markings are probably directed at the Polish and Latvian trucks driving into Norway in the middle of winter with worn out tires and no snow chains. They tend to get stuck at the bottom of the smallest slopes and cause traffic jams. But we love LT/PL cars with slicks - in the summer time at Gardermoen :D

-What do I need to race? The car has a British logbook, no licence plates or whatever. What about fia homologation on any safety devices?
-Driver doesn't have any racing licence - can it be bought or something?

Your log book should be ok, but you need a valid international race license for the driver. The license to be bought at SCC are for cars with plates only, sorry  :-\

Here is another ferry option worth checking out if you don't mind a little bit of driving in Denmark. It is both cheaper and faster than the roro ship from Imminghm. If you do choose the Immingham option, note that the ship has very limited number of tickets for passengers as it is not a regular ferry, but a roro car transport ship, so book your tickets early.

My friends in Slackers Garage tried the following route last week when we visited Big Bang @ Santa Pod:

On our way home to Norway, we took DFDS' Harwich-Esbjerg ferry, then a 350 km drive north to either Hirtshals for the Superspeed ferry to Larvik (crossing takes less than 4 hours) or regular over night ferries from Hirtshals or Fredrikshavn.

Departure was around 5-6 pm on Sunday from Harwich and for those who chose Color Line's Superspeed ferry from Denmark to Norway, they were in Norway late monday night, while some of us took the afternoon ferry from Fredrikshavn and arrived in Oslo tuesday morning (note that Oslo is 1.5 hours less driving to SCC than from Larvik)

The Superspeed ferry from Denmark to Norway was very cheap - less than £25 for two persons and a car.

Total ferry costs were about £900-1000 for two people return (including the more expensive overnight ferry from Fredrikshavn to Oslo on the return) - but we could have gotten 4 people return tickets for the same price (add around £200 for 4 persons and 2 cars as long as you all share one cabin on the Harwich-Esbjerg ferry).

We booked SN Brussels Airlines for only 140 euros. Could even be cheaper for 98 euros, if You fly back on Monday at 6 o'clock in the morning.

A small update, rebuilding trany is done as you can see at the picture, new JCL shifther is also mounted.

The track has now been surveyed by a official surveyor by the means of laser, and was found to be 1mm short, that has now been corrected.  :)
BTW it was done before Skinne did the 8.69 this past weekend  ::) 

I KNEW it!! After seeing all those drivers managing a new PB at SCC I have always suspected that the track was a bit short.

Kalle, before you get to carried away you must remember that this 1 mm is only important to those who drive in a straight line... for those driving 405-406 meters (by choice) it wont affect the ET to much...  :P

there is a train to Lillehammer were probably gonna have to get which goes past Gardermoen airport so that's what we'll be doing Friday afternoon... and Monday afternoon too!!!

That is the worst forecast I have seen in long while. All the Norwegian forecast say;

- Light rain on Friday
- Partly sunny on Saturday
- Partly sunny on Sunday until the afternoon.

BUT;

THERE WILL BE RACING, We have 2 advanced dryers available and we will do our absolute best to prepare the track for you guys. Rain or shine, we`re going to have a great time anyway and the most importing thing for us is that all of you are coming.

They had good  results using "vacuum suckers" on the rainy days before the Sunoco weekend. the blowers tend to heat up the track so it starts siphoning. but I think you guys has this 100% covered.

Hello VW-fans!
It was again a great tour to SCC to see and feel that different event.
My idea was to do a new record there this year, but after i have sleeped all this unnormally warm summer here in Finland, my car was in last years condition just before SCC. Tuning of the new street-engine was late, so i decided just to go just as it was after winning some summernight outlawraces...Then at first start in SCC my race-lucky turned right away. Oilcanalplug went out of the block when i started the engine for the first run. That we fixed easy thanks to Jaakkos sparepart and Leifs glue. So i was back on the track fast, but on that first burnout the flywheel got off.  I had a new set of specialbolts fitting for my flywheel  -but they were at home. Then it was my time to move for audience...

This didnt matter very much, because then i had more time to see and feel the event little different. It was nice to meet lot of guys from many other countries again. I am also allways glad to see many different kind of cars and styles to do the racers. It seems that VW:s are on the good way now and when we realize all these new superfast recordtimes it gives us lots of extra power to continue for next season and for SCC!

A million thanks to the SCC crew for organising the absolutely best VW event!!!!! This was my 4th SCC in a row and somehow you managed to improve what was already perfect.

The event was also a success on a personal level; I managed to improve my '65 turbo street bug's record to 9.43 sec at 235 km/h, thanks to the good track and excellent conditions sunday morning. This is the car that I bought in late 80s, built in 90s, upgraded with a friend of mine in 2002-2003, raced 2003-2005 and took out of hibernation this year. In preparation for SCC I ran it in early July in Alastaro, and based on the data from those 6 passes, I did some changes in the suspension (ladder bar, shock and wheelie bar setups) and engine (more boost, "anti-lag" for gearshifts, a little more ignition advance, some ice in the intercooler water tank). I am very happy with result; it is "only" a basic 2332cc, race weight over 920kg, and fully street legal.

I'd like to thank the organisers and all the racers for putting on such a great event! ;D

Back home now after 3212miles in the bus around the fjords of Norway and then driving back.

If anyone is considering making the trip then I really would recommend making a holiday of it as the west of Norway has some amazing views and roads to drive on.
