Title: Replacing Fuel Tank
Post by: Lids on February 02, 2007, 20:43:40 pm
I have wanted to ditch the standard tank for a while, there is only so much you can do with it.  Has anybody thought about getting a copy  made out of aluminium so that it could be fully polished and detailed?  Or do you think chrome plating the tank would be OTT?

There was a bug in HotVWs last year with a chromed tank. It looked gaudy, made me throw up in my mouth just a little bit.

how unlike you to go OTT mike..... ;)

the only other option in my opininion is to go for a moon or eelco tank.

Mike ,in the interests of weight saving, ditch tank, ditch holley pump, put fuel line ,dash 8 obviously,in mouth.......fill mouth with race fuel, and drop the hammer, whilst blowing like f$%k,great pressure ,massive weight saving, and the added advantage,of at least twelve .five seconds of peace and quiet ;)

I hear those dash plaques weigh quite a bit, you could ditch them :P

That exactly what member G77 did - get a ali buggy tank from SSP, Bolt it up near the dash and get a piece of ali sheet to cover the hole - job done :)

I have been thinking that for a while, a nice replacement tank that fits in the stock hole, pretty welds, polished.

Polished is different than chrome IMO. I hate chrome, but I LUUUUUUvvvv polished aluminum. It has a glow.
