When I used to fly into Sweden and drive back a Bubbla to Belgium, I resided a lot on Blocket.se to search for cars. You can't imagine how the Swedes turn out such nice race cars or lookers if you see the concoctions they build up north. Although I actually like the bus!

Yep, these two guys drove it all the way from Florida and ended up at the VW Classic.  They told me of a thunder shower in Texas that was totally brutal to drive through.  These guys were tough.

Truth is,
I actually like the Boatswagen... but I'm a cheap date.
Back in the 80's there was one very similar that used to run around Seal Beach, CA.

This Japanese ride has been around a while. In a way I think it's not far from the ugliest T3 I've ever seen, but in a way I kind of like it. It's like a fastback, notchback, 911 and P1800 at the same time.

Today I saw a very worthy candidate cruising through Seal Beach, unfortunatly I wasn't ready to snap off a photo when I saw it.  Mark, next time you go to Harbor House Cafe can you get a photo of it, it's south of pch same side of the street.  Orange bay window with a type 1 shell added to the roof.  man that thing is a thing of beauty!

This is a great car! Belongs to RedHot the japanese artist that does the StreetVW covers, super artwork.

What I love about the car is that this could have been the low cost factory Porsche built entry level car family car, the 913. Or the super expensive high end VW sports sedan   :D  Either way, one of both should have put this in production.

I think it was originally just a set of 'what if' type concept llustrations that ended up being built. The build itself was pretty good too, it was done by a company who normally build and race GTs.  8)

Ok, didn't know the deal about the owner and artwork. The artwork is top class! 8)
I think the slim roofline makes the bottom half look a bit heavy. No doubt there have been some serious panel beating involved. Apart from the overall complexity there are some really challenging areas like the doors and fenders, getting them to line up etc.
Anyone know of a link to the build? Just became a little interested about how they did the doors. The outline screams Porsche and the profile VW.

I think the Zip Speed (company that built it) website used to have some on it but it doesn't appear to be working at the moment and I just looked at the article in Street VWs magazine and there's only photo's of it completed. From what I remember it was a pretty epic build, it's a shame if there isn't something somewhere.

Then I'll give their website a go some other day.

That being said - for some people "shit" is a complement. And those people would be perfectly happy reading our comments, because "they have made an impression".
You know how it works? I once saw a drunkard buying cheap wine in a store. He had just shited himself in his pants. You can imagine the smell and the looks. Of course literally everyone around noticed him. He made an impression exactly the same way this Porsche does.

The problem is that a lot of people can't see the difference. They would not say that the guy is smelly and dirty, they would say that he is alternative, cool, alone against the society etc. And then the next step is to create a website www . shit on my pants - look . com , make a forum when people would discuss how to shit in their pants and how to make a fake shit that looks real, "create a community" and start selling t-shirts and stickers with slogans like "shit is not a crime".

Wouldn't that work? Why not? Selling shit to people is usually the best way to make money

Header says: 1944 Porsche 356 with registration papers!, the Bucket is indeed exactly that, a kubel or kubelwagen. So the chassis is that of a wartime VW car.

When I consider the location of this car and the overal shape..there is just simply one conclusion. I guess it is a self built 356 clone, that was built during the times of DDR or GDR for all english speaking guys. Its not that unusual that a kübelwagen chassis survied war and was used for building something else. So maybe a really handy guy on the wrong side of the german wall built his own 356.

But if any porsche freaks know better..!?

It's hard to discuss taste, I should know, I'm the one defending the beauty of the Pink Lady, one of the raddest bugs ever built. But still, I think all of us can agree this is one ugly bus! However cheap it was built and whatever technical stuff was done to it, it could have been hit once or twice with the beauty-stick, that would not have hurt.

That bus a complete POS before it was turned into that. The title of this thread is worst VW ever not worst looking VW. There is no way that bus can be considered in that group. It is a lot faster then a stock bus which means it is awesome. Performance is everything.

I don't know if this Bus was a piece of shit before (maybe so, because "Even the trademark VW nose logo was missing"). All I can say that it is terrible now. But if someone have fun with it then it's OK. For him. I guess. ;)

I generally can't stand any VW with a V8 transplant, but I'll be brutally honest here... I think the Ghia actually looks decent.  To me, a Ghia nor a Type 3 seem to be naturals for such a conversion, though I won't condone it by any means.  A Squareback with a V8 in the front would be kind of like a baby Nomad... okay, putting my Nomex suit on now! ;D

Again, can't stress enough that I usually don't like V8 conversions in VWs... but I kind of dig the Ghia.

I usually HATE v8 conversions in VWs, but this Ghia doesn't really put me off all that much.  If I'm going to see a V8 conversion done, I'd prefer to see it in a Ghia or else maybe a squareback.  I've seen much worse, I reckon.

Lol, I know I'm playing devil's advocate here, but somehow the Ghia doesn't look as "cartooney" as a Bug with a V8 does... believe me, I'm one of the first to say how much I can't stand V8 into VW conversions, but for me this Ghia ain't too terrible.  Not what I would do with the car, by any means, but what the hey.  ;D

This car is actually quite cool. It tool me 10 minutes to do a walk around at a recent show. There are a LOT of interesting details that can't be appreciated by a casual glance.
Those are front fenders on the rear. Olds tail lights. Bolts in the trim holes. Carson style top (hand formed). The engine cover is treated uniquely. Shows what happens when you aren't hampered by preconceived notions of what works.

This was seen at the Sacramento Bugorama.

It appeared once again at the Greedyguys show in Spokanistan. I spent all day trying to find the 'road-race' ghia that everyone kept telling me about. He kept calling it a '57. If true, that makes it even more nauseating.

I thought it was a joke but the owner was intensely proud of what he hath wrought. I'm not a Ghia guy and it bummed me out.

What's under the hood? Is that a second motor?

No, it's the stock fuel tank but IIRC it's mounted sideways. There's another smaller cylindrical tank on top of it. The thing in the foreground is a ginormous brake booster and master cylinder--it looked like it was from a newer Chevrolet full-sized truck.

I didn't look closely (I'm sure you understand) but I think it's Olds powered (probably 425 or 455). The transaxle is a Toronado/ElDorado piece for sure. The guy had to lengthen the wheelbase to make it all fit.

Now that you mention it I should've looked closer. It looks like it might be a Kohler industrial engine running the air-conditioning system. Or a tampon dispenser that goes with the automatic transmission.  :D
