However, finding a 911 with race history in its blood from day one is something very special and rare. 42 years later, this 911 S race car has survived with very little incident or issues. It has had a great history going back to its first owner: Joe Vittone, the president and CEO of Empi (a famous VW/Porsche after market products company). Joe purchased this 911 new in ’67 and used it to help market some of his aluminum pistons and cylinders. In 1969, as a performance marketing promotion, Bob Bondurant was asked to put the car through its paces at Riverside Raceway. Bondurant was so impressed not only with the cars performance, but also with it’s bright tangerine color, that he adopted tangerine for his driving school cars. This is when the current owner purchased the car and started to fulfill his vintage racing interests. However, all the money and time paid off with Vara CP class championships in 1998 and 2001. The current owner wiped out all it's history by replacing almost everything. Grungy, house-paint battleship grey paint job, 1967 "S" car, with American Racing mags (hammered pretty bad), old timer roll cage, some light weight stuff on it. Found it in a trailer park in north Napa CA for something like $3K, pen-knifed some of the bad paint off, and car stll had bright orange and yellow livery underneath. Turns out the car had race history on the west coast.
You just never can tell... this car is cool, but the big alloys look too modern. |
