Title: Drum 'n Bass
Post by: Harry/FDK on November 26, 2009, 21:33:14 pm
I'm getting a little bored with the rock/pop/metal/ soul/alternative stuff so i dug out my little electronic collection again:

Orbital
Tricky
Moby
The Orb
Jam & Spoon
Underworld
Chemical Brothers
Massive Atack
Art Of Noise
Propellerheads
Air

But i REALLY need suggestions to lead me to the Drum 'n Bass direction.

HELP !!!

Take a long, good listening to Pendulum.

Pendulum are an Australian drum and bass/electronic rock production group and live band originally from Perth, Australia formed between producers Rob Swire, Gareth McGrillen and Paul Harding. In 2003, they relocated to the United Kingdom. They have gained major popularity in the UK, and have started making a name for themselves overseas. After a shift in musical style incorporating a rock-oriented sound, Pendulum are now better known for their energetic live shows, with live band setup and advanced visual displays.

This is their new single, a bit up-tempo but groovy as hell; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YWnpwV63KiY&feature=fvsr

And here is their typical sound; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZCKpzP5SGYw&feature=related

Enjoy!

Drum 'n Bass? Isn't that just the remaining Beatles? ???

I saw Roni Size and Reprazent at the Leadmill in Sheffield many years ago - their "New Forms" album was the Mercury Music Prize winner in 97 or so. Still one of the few DnB albums I'll listen too. On the subject of Pendulum, they've done a couple of good remixes, one of a Prodigy tune and another one is a Metallica song! :o

Ok so it's not strictly drum and bass but you might get a kick  :D out of this one.

It's something for Pendulum's drummer to have a look at !

I didn't read this topic to start with as a friend of mine's kid brother DJ's D&B and is for want of a better description a mentalist (and friend) (but I can't take more than 20 minutes of so of his stuff). Electronica of all varieties on the other hand is a different thing, sorry Hurry I should have checked in on your thread sooner. My prized record is a Jam and Spoon Age Of Love white label from '91 and timeless but other stuff I'm listening to still now includes Meat beat Manifesto's Radio Babylon which is the root of FSOL's Papua New Guinea and therefore equates to two classics for the price of one. Looking at the whole thing though and all its history there's a whole load of awesome stuff from a bunch of different backgrounds, (-Kraftwerk-) obviously Afrika Bambaataa & The Soul Sonic Force but there also tracks like Simple Minds' Themes From Great Cities which is maybe a hint of House stuff to follow it?

Thanks for the input guys.
I dug up a ton of old tapes recorded from Eins Live DJ: Klaus Viehe. But i always did cut the bla bla out. Too bad, his shows on Sunday evenings are really mind expanding.

Adam F's - Colours album is a must (avoid the follow up Kaos - The Anti-Acoustic Warfare - unless you like modern hip-hop)

Circles is the stand out tune from Colours - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BTZAQlr6ZZc

Good work from a man whose father is Alvin Stardust   :D

You cannot go wrong with LTJ Bukem either. The Logical Progression series is superb.

I really NEED JoJo Mayer & Nerve : PROHIBITED BEATS. I can only find it as MP3 download. If anyone could burn this for me on CD it would be appreciated very much.

(of course i'would pay any costs). Thanks !

Still need that Help !!! PLS? (again MP3 downloads are area sensitive and the sound just plain sucks).

I'm surprised nobody recommended Medeski, Martin and Wood.  Saw them live a few times in Arizona.
