some very useful turbo info in this link: http://www.danallum.com/aircooled/forced_induction.htm
looks like you'll need the turbomaps to see if those turbo's are good

what do you think?

Title: Re: Peter's ghia
Post by: Peter on February 15, 2010, 17:44:21 pm
Hello guys,
I still cant forget the thought of fitting this turbo...
I figured because I have a heavy car now, and the room for it in the engine bay its a good idea..?
Does somebody know how much boost is allowed with pump gas with lets say a CR of 8.5/1 without intercooler?
The cost wouldnt be that high i think if I modify my 1 3/4 header and do some DIY?
i was thinking like a better clutch disc, turbo, piping, wastegate,..
Probably the fuel system has to be changed as well? I still have some extra injectors tha

I still have some extra injectors that i maybe could connect parallel to the ones I have now?
Hope I didnt bore you too much? :)

Title: Re: Peter's ghia
Post by: volkskris on February 16, 2010, 13:12:22 pm
the amount of boost you will be able to run depends on the camshaft. more info in this link:
http://www.shoptalkforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=106178 (http://www.shoptalkforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=106178)
an intercooler will give extra horsepower with less heath (theoretically). you can run an air/air intercooler under the airvents, with some fans to suck air trough it.

(not my pics, the first is from Georg/DFL, the second is from armin klein's homepage: http://www.turboboxer.de/ (http://www.turboboxer.de/))
oh, and you haven't metioned a blow-off-valve in your list ;)

@ Kris: taken care of that :)

I have been annoyed by an oil leak coming from the pulley for a long time now;
time to change now that i have a new pulley:
I had to modify it a bit though:
medieval technique: the file, after making the initial cuts, i found a dremel,
works much better; so heres the result:
dont mind the dust on the motor, its being cleaned :)

Funny sidenote from Spa:
i installed an lsd some time ago, and i like to use it :)
so on show and shine area in Spa, there are these nice steel covers,
If you drive over them in a normal way; no problem;
but sideways while U turning tends to cut 3 inch holes in the tires  :o
luckily this was on saturday, so the tire shop was open..
great start of a weekend :)

for the specs:
bought a cb 2289 cam in the past and at that time i wanted to keep the motor NA,
but after advice from Kalle, I will use it for the turbo,
I also have some wisecos that will be dished to drop the CR
and i found a wastegate, waterinjection  and bov in holland,
so i hope i can put it together soon :)
I dont know about the header yet, cut it up and reweld it, or for the time being, just make a pipe to the turbo

Cut and reweld!! Just tack it in place and I'll weld it up for you...

It is looking promising and I just wish I had that much room in my car. You could "easily" fit a intercooler in there as well to bring your charge temp down.

Keep on with the good work!

Post by: Peter on October 07, 2010, 18:38:56 pm
hey Kalle, thanks,
I know there is a lot of space,
and for performance an IC would be better,
but i just hate the look of them, not to mention all the extra tubing i would need  :)

Title: Re: Peter's ghia
Post by: volkskris on October 07, 2010, 18:58:44 pm
it would be cool to have an intercooler with one inlet in the middle and 2 exhausts on the sides. no extra tubing needed. in voksworld 12/2007 there's a nice example of it on a lowlight.

Why is that? I'm no turbo guy, just curious.

Apparently a T "crushes" the fuel droplets and allows "better" mixture.
