Title: side impact bars Post by: kingsburgphil on December 10, 2009, 07:26:54 am Just in case you stateside low budget scroungers need some really stout thick wall tubing, (HSS or better, maybe 1 1/8 OD). Check out your "junk" yards for Saturn
coupes. The side impact bars are easy to remove.....a hammer (brick) to shatter the polymer outer door panels and a cordless sawz/all to cut thru the attaching sheet metal. This stuff is way too good to send to China and have it come back as... anything/everything :D Title: Re: side impact bars Post by: Neil Davies on December 11, 2009, 09:59:12 am Good tip Phil! I thought it had been quiet - all the US Loungers have been off raiding the scrapyards!
On a similar note, I'm sure I heard Frank from the Outlaws saying about his traction bar being made from the side impact bar of an Audi A8 - it's a nice strong aluminium extrusion! ;) |
