Title: So Cal Imports show
Post by: Rennsurfer on December 20, 2009, 02:24:03 am
Today, there was a car show hosted by Foreign Fantasy at So Cal Imports in north Long Beach. We stopped by for a little bit and saw a few friends, there. Only took a few pics.

Haven't seen this car, in person, in almost thirty years.

Guess that the 1641cc has been replaced.

Hard to believe that it still has the old vanity plates after all of these years.

My good friend, Pip, was present with his car and club.

If I had a Split, this would most likely the view I'd never tire of.

Turbo Notch', anyone?

D.B.K.

Another '50s vehicle.

Sometimes, if one delves deep enough and reflects... objects from the past loom forth.

Since I was a kid, I've always had a soft spot for these wheels finished as such. In another several decades, I'll feel the same way.

Thanks, Robert... hope that ya got your carbs to cooperate. Don't worry, we left our VWs at home. Only way I was bringing mine was if the rest (or most) of the DEEKS were showing their cars. Mark R. and I decided to meet up there and just check it out. Very close to my house... so I went.

WoW Mark! Nice pics! This show was a nice get together! I love the Yukon Yellow Vert!!! Another lucky owner!  ;)

Thanks, T.Fabs. Yeah, I got to speak to the new owner. He's got some really cool plans for the car. Can't wait to shoot more pics of it after hearing about the goodness that's about to take place.

 ;)

LOL Ron Like Berg Says Buy the Best and Cry Once  all they are is a Pepop of a Repop of a Repop of a Repop If you want something that looks like the real Thing then the new Flat 4's are it  if you dont care about the Looks Buy The Repop Of The Repop X 4 or More   its just like the old Fiberglass Fenders and Hoods Someone will make something that fits and looks good then it gets Copied by making a mold off of it the that one gets copied  and soon you have a piece of crap that dosent fit and looks like crap with Fiberglass everytime it is copied there is a 7% difference in fit and size so do the Math something copied over and over  is just Junk

since gary hasnt seen them yet, i will give you an honest opinion. they look just about identical to the mkw's, smooth centers(no cast marks), but the ribs and lips dont have the machine lines that the flat fours do. all in all a good looking wheel for the money, it wouldnt take that much work to make them look really good, and going with garys 7% difference theory, they would be 22" spinners  ;D ;D

Okay -- so, good deal or not??? shiny or matte??? does that mean EVERYONE is going to have
them now ?? Does that mean you are cheap unless you buy the flat fours??? And can someone
give me the scoop (please) do you run them as is -- or do you have to polish them or have them
repainted with a matte / semi-gloss paint?? Sarge mentioned something about a buff & respray.
I don't want to drop $500- $800 & then send them out for RE-DESIGN. I'm no newbie here ---
BUT -- I have been way out of touch for a long time !!!  ::)     Thanks

It's your car... so it's whatever you desire. Personally, I bought the old Flat Four ones. Sand blasted 'em, repainted the spoke insets flat black, got some EMPI (old, not new) caps, and was very happy with the look. (see photo in my signature, down below) I'm sure that you can buy 'em with either finish... polished w/clear coat or matte finish. The choice is yours.

If memory serves me correctly, when the flat 4's first came out, everyone was running them, then it kinda died down a bit to what we have now. The latest version of flat 4's are about as close as they come to original without the mag or lug inserts and people bitch because they put the casting marks on them. In short, the empi wheels don't look like flat 4's, closer to the mws or mkw or whatever the euro made ones are called. If you don't like those, then buy flat 4's, if price is the only factor, these are great looking wheels to, decide for yourself what looks good. Some people are gonna hate these just because their empi so take the input for what it's worth

I run the MSW BRM wheels (4,5"/5,5"). Have run them for 3-4 years (15000-20000km). No problems at all, great wheels! They are clear coated from the factory - No pitting showing yet. They have driven in the rain for many many kilometers, so I would guess they could last a lifetime in So-Cal.

I´m with DKK_Fred:... "It's your car... so it's whatever you desire"

Sadly, this is why EMPI/Mr. Bug will never cease to be and the quality of parts out there will never improve.  People keep buying by price rather than quality, and EMPI/Mr. Bug does not represent the latter by any means.
