Title: Got snow? Post by: Eric Ellis (57HotrodVW) on December 27, 2009, 04:15:47 am We had a white Christmas in North Texas this year - whoohoo! The last one was over 80 years ago, back in 1926. Since it's a rare occasion, I thought you guys might like to see some pics. Also, if you've got snow in your area, please show/tell me about it.

(http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f346/57hotrodvw/asst/IMG_7310.jpg) My mother-in-law received her Christmas gift wrapped in a beautiful blue tarp fastened with duct tape (I didn't think the Santa paper and Scotch tape would quite hold up to the weather and ~30 minute drive in the "Taco") (http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f346/57hotrodvw/asst/IMG_7317.jpg) By late on Christmas Eve, we had accumulations of ~3-4". It was pretty, but too dry for good snowballs. Unfortunately, much of it melted away by ~2:00pm on Christmas day. no real snow in liverpool where i'm staying atm , think because its too near the coast ?? lots of it in manchester though ... tried to visit my sister yesterday and the road leading to her house had compacted and frozen and turned to a sheet of ice :o got stuck in the car just spinning alternate wheels , finally got going again and just carried on driving ;D snow sucks !!! More often than not, our Winter precipitation is freezing rain/ice, which causes many traffic problems and business closures. As far as the heavy clothes go, we can buy them for almost nothing at the end of the Winter season, and they look like new by the time the kids grow out of them because they don't get that much use... ;D On a related note, the attached pic is a screenshot of what's displayed on the Bing.com home page today. First drive in my 66 13w deluxe. It´s a rustfree/orig. paint Californian import, so I guess it´s the first time it has driven in snow/ice. It's unseasonably cold here in Texas now (highs ~30°F/-1°C and lows ~15°F/-10°C), but with plenty of sun and no snow or ice. We had ~2 inches on the ground this morning at 6:00am when I left for work, and the snow is supposed to continue throughout the day for possible accumulations of up to 5-6 inches. I better fire up the snow plow and get out the emergency rations ;) I stopped by Wal-Mart this morning to buy my daughters some gloves for an after school snowball fight, and found that they didn't have a winter glove, hat, or jacket anywhere in the store (!) - they did have plenty of shorts and tank tops though.... ;D (http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f346/57hotrodvw/asst/IMG_7595.jpg) Title: Re: Got snow? It snowed all day and most of the night on Thursday. The DFW airport recorded 12.5 inches (~32cm) of snow in 24 hours, which is more snow than has fallen in a single day since they started keeping track over 110 years ago. Area schools were closed on Friday, so we had plenty of fun playing in the snow. It's really hard to drive with heavy trucks on secondary roads and really dangerous. It took me twice my normal time to do my delivery tour yesterday. And today is even more difficult :-[ :-[ I also spend 3 hours yesterday night to remove 10cm of ice from our warehouse yard with a tractor, it became quite impossible for semi trailers to go out. I regret not driving a Beetle in the winter anymore. Especially that my winter car is front wheel drive. I spent the weekend turning my drive into a luge run (it's pretty steep) for the kids. But I forgot I had to use the Volks out today. Man - I *hate* driving when there's salt everywhere. I'm sure I could hear my heater channels screaming :-[
So here's my drive (not much room for error.
