I`ve had the same basic chrome light from SEARS for about 20 years now. But I couldn`t tell you if what they sell now will last as long.

Use an old Sun timing until I thought I lost it in my move last year, then got a Sears light W/adjustable advance. Did find my Sun after. Both work great.

The basic chrome MSD unit works better than anything I've tried, even on magnetos.

I use a regular one without adj. advance.

I've been using the same Sears/Craftsman chrome unit with adjustable advance for 16 years.

How do you check total advance?

What is this total advance that you speak of?

 ;D

Just kidding... I borrow one of those previously mentioned old chrome guns from a friend or from my shop at work.
