Title: So Cal New Year's Day Cal Look cruise/lunch?
Post by: Rennsurfer on December 30, 2009, 03:11:40 am
I know... it's last minute, but whatever.

If anyone's interested in taking their Cal Lookers out for a short cruise and enjoying some Mexican food... post up. We're thinking early afternoon, any time after noon. <---Welcome to the Department of Redundancy Dept.

More details to follow, if there's enough people that want to do this. Typically, the weather for that day is pretty good. And because we had a lotta fun with our cars last weekend, we were thinking of doing the same thing since most people have that day off from work.

Start off 2010 correctly... in your Cal Looker. Or, simply join us and have fun in whatever you want to drive.

Next?

Wait... sports? Only ones that I watch are my sons' events. Have fun, Jim.

In circles? Mine only drives in irregular quadrilaterals, common trapezoids, and the ever elusive parallelogram .

Back to the original idea behind this thread:

Anyone interested in a mid-afternoon cruise and eats?

There's no real plan as of yet and so far it's Fred, Rob and myself.

If you'd like to join in please post up. I'll post up a meeting place & time. We can decide where to go once we meet.

Happy New Year!

Dan

Not much to report, today... Dan and I met at the Long Beach Town Center, as per the original plan. After a brief DEEK discussion, we ended up dining at a local eatery near the Long Beach airport called Hokaido. Basically, an all you can eat affair with sushi, seafood, and just about every type of Asian food that you can think of.

To the casual observer, this appears like a normal parking lot boring picture of our cars. Such is not the case, entirely. This is actually the view from our booth, where we were eating. I shot this through the huge glass window in the back of the building.

Mmm, suuushi.

Another perspective from our booth and my third plate in the foreground.

A very small portion of the hot food line up. The available food trays go on for a very long distance, at this place. Huge variety that has something for everyone.

That's all that I got. It was a nice lunch/dinner (ate enough to cover both meals), some great conversation, and a few laughs... on this New Year's Day, 2010 a.d.

Hope that you all enjoyed the holiday, as well.

Very cool, Jason. Are those shots from where you work? Looks like they were taken where I sometimes work... at the AERA facility on the H.B. cliffs, overlooking the ocean.

Very cool, Jason... when was that resort built? My girlfriend used live near there in the '90s and doesn't recall it being fully constructed yet.

Used to be Marineland.  Site was completely leveled. about 50 some odd trees saved and moved to storage during contstruction back on property now. All the asphalt and rock from demo was reused as groundfill for the property and roads. It opened in June of '09 and construction took 2 years.  You should go check it out. It's very beautiful. The entire property is open to public with 9 hole golf course scenic hiking trails private beach that many scuba from. There are 4 restaurants from sports bar to 5 star dining. Full spa and fitness facilities as well. Great place.

Vincent Thomas bridge or 110fwy left on Gaffey, right on 1st st., Left on western ,right on 25th which will become Rancho Palos Verdes drive south, 6 miles up through Portuguese bend which is the most land movement area in the nation I believe. Left on Terranea way and welcome to a slice of paradise.

It's about a mile past the Trump golf course.

I know exactly where it is. Used to go to Marineland when I was a kid. My older son and his best friend would love to golf there. Thanks for the info... we'll have to go check it out, soon. Looked at the pics on their site, the place turned out gorgeous.

Cool deal,  the golf course is made up of copies of nine famous PGA holes.  Not sure which courses they are taken from though.
