Title: Lotus white 67
Post by: beetlemic on December 31, 2009, 16:41:11 pm
My new project car is a -67 beetle that i found at the same place were i found my Jeans beetle that was last years project in a barn on the countryside.

About my self live on a litlle island in the middle of the Botnian Gulf on the Åland Islands there are about 6000 small islands in our archipelago, well that was todays geogarphy lession :D

The plan is to build a neat 67 in my own cal look style but i will try to follow the book of the old school look cal looker..

Trim off you go! well maybe not all but its one way or the other clean or sparkling!

My new 67 was repainted a long time ago and i asked a the seller about the color on the car and he told me that the car was originally painted  pearl white  but when i did a search the only color that matches a 67 white beetle is Lotus white so therefore my 67 is going to be Lotus White with nice looking Brm's and a big Engine ;D

This is when i first got her home... what about cars is it her or him ? Anyway had to start with high pressure cleaning to remove as much 40 years of grease and dirt as i possible could before going in to the garage.

Early October washing the bug:

There was more rust than i excpected, as i live on a island we dont usually salt the roads winter time but in the past it was quite common and yes this is north
which means snow and ice on the lakes wintertime..

I did not by new floor pans as we have to import everything to my island, so i visited a local shop to buy new sheet metal.

New floor under the chairs welded in...

Rust is VERY time consuming ;)

Good choice. Why change the colour if it's already in the prettiest shade for a Beetle  ;)

Thanks for inputs, Cool to see other Lotus White beetles, but "on the edge" thinks its common color ::) well i haven's seen that many so in my eyes they are pretty rare..

The progress is maybe not the fastest in the world but there's got to be some for other things also like shuffle tons of snow from the roof, carry in a lot of wood to have a warm home and other non interesting vw things,  i think my island should be dragged a few miles southwards   :D..

Out with the old 1300cc

Cut out the rear apron, its much nicer to work on a car with that done.

Here i have learned my lession and made some holes for easier reaching of carbs and sparks, welded nuts on inside.

cal lookers dont like plenty shining so a lot of holes have to be welded...

Had to start removing oil and dirt under the floorpan it was not nice to get a lot of it in the eyes, so i just turned the chassie for easier acess.

Car is now 10 kg lighter, i think

Floorpan has now been painted with POR-15 seems very effective from what i heard and read.
