Title: My first car...
Post by: bugnut68 on January 03, 2010, 04:22:42 am
I figured this didn't belong in the Cal Look forum on this site, so I posted it here.  Let me start off by saying, hey, it was the early '90s. ;D

'59 body, '63 pan, titled in Oregon as a '63... never again will I do these two things; okay, three things: 1)own a pink car; 2)own a car with mismatched pan and body, even if its legally titled here in Oregon and 3)shaved door handles.  Shaved handles are bad, mmkay?  That said, I have a lot of fun memories of this car, and learned a lot from it, even if it was the hard way:

All these pics are circa 1995.

I'd kill to be able to run those wheels on my '70... damned disc brake spindles won't let me though...;D

The color of the car never bothered me so much as the shaved doors and (eventually) the issue with the body being a different year from the pan.  I actually got sued over that by the douche bags that bought the car from me; may they rot in hell forever on that.  I didn't do anything wrong, sold the car to them AS IS as it was stated on the bill of sale, yet the small claims judge still decided in favor of the plaintiff because the body turned out to be a '59 and not a '58, as I'd been led to believe.  Ok, I've gotta stop, my blood pressure is starting to rise again...lol.

Ryan, two things I like about your first car; VW hubcaps on 356 style wheels & the factory fuel pump.

Built my first car in 1979. A '66 Bug with an embarrassingly useless aftermarket sunroof. Of which I had removed, later.

Like you, I learned a lot from that car. And you're right... one can't ever replace those great memories and time spent with their first car.

I hated high school, and the VW thing was perhaps the only way I managed to survive it...lol.
