Title: Finally....Progress on the new 67 Apron and Deck Lid for the Chop Top
Post by: rick m on January 03, 2010, 05:26:58 am
I've been so consumed with family issues, work force reductions in business and other challenges this year that the chop top sat for 5 months. Thank goodness for a long New Years weekend to get something done.

I took apart an old apron I had from a previous wrecked 67, along with the deck lid, performing some metal finishing along the way.  Today all I could get to after treating the metal was trial fits.  Still have to soda blast the engine compartment to clean it up and ready the car for the new 2275 IDA motor.  Here are a couple shots of this weekends progress.

Hope to have it running in about 4-5 weeks.  The motor is already short blocked and ready for fitting the 94s, heads and final engine assembly. A new 3.88 trans was shoved in with short axles, so the 7" alloys would fit nicely with their 215/70 tires. The car should be a great freeway cruiser for long trips to the classic, etc. Getting excited to get all the changes completed.

Does anyone know if the plastic cup that fits inside the 67 apron, just below the latch bracked, is still made? If anyone has a resource, I would be interested.  It is about 1 1/2" wide by 2" dall and has about a 1" recessed cup toward the exhaust side of the apron.

Don,

Thanks for the lead. I will check it out on Monday. I hope it works for a 67.

I will be doing some additional metal fitting and work this weekend.  Hope to have some additional shots to show progress. Will start the EMPI eyebrows for the decklid and filling the cutouts with a newly fabbed piece for the rear apron.
