Title: Surface Polishing (internals)
Post by: RFbuilt on January 07, 2010, 17:22:14 pm
wondering about internal tricks,

if it works or not.. i wont know since i really havnt been around the block unlike most seasoned chaps here hehe

i see cranks like DPR/demello being heat treated etc.. i wonder is this on the main and rod journals only.. to make the surface tough

or is it the whole crank,  and is it like nitriding , which i think is 0.040" deep or sumthing.. the treatment..

i ask

cuz i find it interesting,  polishing the outers of the crank/counterweights etc and rods, to subsequently minimize oil cling

not sure if most hi-po builders do it or has done it, and if its beneficial, at what point, ( i know it wont do squat driving around 3k rpm)

hope we can discuss it,   seeing veterans here , specially JPM, myt have sum cool tidbits to share,

thanks

here's a link to jake Raby's site,  with samples of the work
