Hi, did vw produce a sports camshaft back in the 70's if so did it have a part number does anyone have info ?

no, vw didn't make any sports camshafts as such, but i think type 3 and 1600 cams had slightly different degrees?
not sure if that is true or not though?

I do not think so. If VW ever made a different cam, it would have been for the SP-2, 1700cc T-1 for the Brazilian market.

I know it wasn't oem but I remember those Brazilian or Cofab cams AP-1. AP2. AP-3  how did those come about?

no same cam. i thought it was different as well. but it isn't.
