Title: Re: Crank Shafts for Street Use Post by: DKK Ted on February 04, 2010, 04:37:05 am X2 on DPR.
Ted Title: Re: Crank Shafts for Street Use Post by: DKK Ted on February 04, 2010, 04:44:08 am I've used Demello for many years without problems on the street. I've heard of Demello being used in race engines without problem's. I just went with DPR, had another 83mm stroker ground by DPR, 411 center main, Chevy jounals, and wedge mated. I've heard of top racers using and backing them up. So I'm trying DPR out. So far went together in the case without a hitch. Very smooth turning. I also believe in overkill. Cheap insurance to me.
Title: Re: Crank Shafts for Street Use Post by: red baron on February 04, 2010, 07:46:33 am X3 DPR
Title: Re: Crank Shafts for Street Use Post by: Kaferdog on February 04, 2010, 09:55:20 am X4 on the DPR...! Ted assembled my motor and it too spins very smoothly !!.....By the way Rick I bought a case from you a few years back and in the last email you wanted to see the motor when I was done ..Well its done thanks to Ted ....a.k.a. Racecraf....and thanks to you Rick...!!
Title: Re: Crank Shafts for Street Use Post by: Zach Gomulka on February 04, 2010, 17:50:40 pm Without a doubt, DPR.
Title: Re: Crank Shafts for Street Use Post by: roland on February 04, 2010, 18:12:36 pm I got a DPR too! :)
Title: Re: Crank Shafts for Street Use Post by: Addie/DVK on February 04, 2010, 21:07:28 pm Also DPR.
Title: Re: Crank Shafts for Street Use Post by: rick m on February 05, 2010, 01:59:23 am Hey Kaferdog! Glad to hear from you. Great to see the motor together and being readied to run! You will need to take a video and post it once you fire it up!
Rick M Title: Re: Crank Shafts for Street Use Post by: louisb on February 05, 2010, 02:04:06 am Berg doesn't make cranks anymore.
--louis Title: Re: Crank Shafts for Street Use Post by: volksnut on February 05, 2010, 02:59:19 am I'm still beating on my old EMS unit
Title: Re: Crank Shafts for Street Use Post by: Donny B. on February 05, 2010, 04:35:42 am Quote Berg doesn't make cranks anymore. But they're still out there. Just gotta keep your eyes open. By the way I have two. Title: Re: Crank Shafts for Street Use Post by: rick m on February 05, 2010, 04:46:21 am We know that BERG does not make them any more but I would buy one any day if I found one.

Title: Re: Crank Shafts for Street Use Post by: Bryan67 on February 05, 2010, 14:56:48 pm Theres nothing wrong with a CB crank. I`d go with one.
Title: Re: Crank Shafts for Street Use Post by: Frank LUX on February 05, 2010, 15:30:45 pm Okrasa or Berg, are the Best Cranks for me.... ;)
Frank Title: Re: Crank Shafts for Street Use Post by: louisb on February 05, 2010, 16:08:18 pm The Berg cranks are still the best out there if you can find one. If you have one, don't let it go. But for the majority of builders these days, they are not an option.
--louis Title: Re: Crank Shafts for Street Use Post by: Dominick Luppino on February 05, 2010, 16:53:44 pm I have been using a BUGPACK crank for over 15 years with no problems, best ET 9.05 @ 155mph best 60ft 1.24. I just switched to a BUGPACK Flanged crank but my old 82mm has no cracks and it will live to race another day.
Bad tune ups kill cranks, so let's hear how the others stand up, not just a manufactures name. Title: Re: Crank Shafts for Street Use Post by: besserwisser on February 05, 2010, 18:35:43 pm Personally i like the welded original cranks from Demello and DPR. The crank in my racecar is a welded bergcrank from way back when and has held up amazingly well. As for Okrasa i have quite a few that have lost the flywheel but they have been in Swedish Rallycross and those guys are famous for only having two tools sledgehammer and a crowbar. In my ARPM case there is a Berg crank with type four mains and type four flywheelcenter. Ihavent tested it yet. For a streetcar most of the aftermarket cranks will do the jobb if they are machined right. Several cranks have been to small on the pulley -surface so that will cause problems in the future. The reason for going with welded cranks is the superior material in the german cranks and all of the motors I build up to 1914 have the original noncounterweighted cranks. They very rarely fail and the measurements are always good.
Title: Re: Crank Shafts for Street Use Post by: rick m on February 06, 2010, 07:57:09 am Dominick,
I had one of the early BUGPACKS in my 67 street car. I pounded the heck out of it and after 10,000+ miles is was still good. Eventually I built a 2275 with the same crank and rods. Sold the motor to FRENCHY and I think he put it in the old white 67 he had and sold to someone. Still around as far as I know. That crank is going on 15 years old. Title: Re: Crank Shafts for Street Use Post by: stealth67vw on February 06, 2010, 23:51:43 pm Bugpack gets my vote too. Even Berg has said if you can't afford one of his cranks, Bugpack is the next best thing. I have a 78 VW journal in my 2165 and had a 84 flanged that I sold when times were tough.
Title: Re: Crank Shafts for Street Use Post by: Jim M on February 07, 2010, 03:11:15 am I run Tony Mance, but just retired one to go bigger. It was replaced witha DPR wedgemate unit

Scat pro comp in mine for 10 years,4 different engine variations, mild N/A then more aggresive N/A then Nirous, then turbo, still lives on,never needed a grind, just a polish once and now calls the EBI car its home :) cheers richie,uk Title: Re: Crank Shafts for Street Use Post by: sonic on February 07, 2010, 20:44:21 pm Driven a Scat Pro Street crank since 1994, 50 000 km (just sold ) . Think this must have been a good year (JMR prepared and balanced )
Going for Scat again (Flanged pro drag ) Hopefully just a good ..all thanks to Scat .. Reg Erich Title: Re: Crank Shafts for Street Use Post by: rick m on February 12, 2010, 19:59:25 pm CB seems to be the more affordable and good street combo. SCAT makes a very nice crank too. Too bad the BERG Cranks are no longer being made. They were a class piece.

Berg, as he told me, was byeing crankbilletts from Bofors ,Sweden . Reg Erich Title: Re: Crank Shafts for Street Use Post by: Bewitched666 on February 13, 2010, 11:16:11 am Used bugpack cranks before without any problems Dee engineers ruled back then ;D
Title: Re: Crank Shafts for Street Use Post by: ugly duckling on February 15, 2010, 02:55:48 am im loyal to jose at DPR he is a true craftsman a small shop that has the QC under control he reminds me of good old tony mance. my next would be a bugpack . why do i choose these cranks because there AFFORDIBLE and there TUFF as nails and if you do happen to break one your not out a friggen house morgage to get another. just my two BITS .BTW I CONSIDER MY TWO CHOOSES STREET AND RACE. some may tend to differ but thats ok. ive had some of the others.
