Title: Alu case Post by: Bad bug on February 12, 2010, 02:39:10 am Good night All,
Is anyone using the alu case for there engine. Title: Re: Alu case Post by: Dave Rosique on February 12, 2010, 07:31:50 am I'm going to use one. Against my better judgement. You see I'm an oldtimer, stuck in my ways but I know some very smart, reputable engine builders that really like them so I'm going to give it a try. Look around on this site and the "other" Cal-Look site, you will find some very interesting information. ~DR. Title: Re: Alu case Post by: nicolas on February 13, 2010, 18:45:02 pm there is another callook site?
alu cases are getting rarer these day it seems. Title: Re: Alu case Post by: Ragtop on February 13, 2010, 21:09:34 pm I am replacing my original case with a aluminium one for the race car. Will use t4 mains on all. Hopefully my crank will hold up better this time
Title: Re: Alu case Post by: Bad bug on February 13, 2010, 21:41:52 pm Ragtop it will based on what the members of the other callook site are say, but you will need to do some modification to make it work. Please see the list of mods below. Also remember to clean case thoroughly.
MODS TO ALU CASE Off the top of my head: Oil holes in bearing saddles need alignment and opening depending on how much rod side clearance you want to run. Oil pump in/out holes don't match normal oil pumps Dist hole is not always round Oil plunger bores almost always need work to improve plunger seal Flash material needs cleaning to promote oil return to sump, reduce stress risers, and general cleanliness Pickup tube Oil passages usually have crap in them, moreso than mag case |
