Title: Re: 917 Cal-look killer! Post by: Jim Ratto on February 18, 2010, 22:02:00 pm One of the pinnacles of automotive engineering, ever. Looking down upon the longblock, it looks so deceptively simple. Design wise and tech wise, it really is so simple it's the work of genius, but it's in the details where this motor was so special, and not that simple at all. Just the oiling system alone. 8)
Wine Country Motorsports in Sonoma, CA, about 15 years ago, had bronzed 917 intake cams mounted on little stands for sale as art. Think they were $1500 per cam. If I had the bread at the time.... Title: Re: 917 Cal-look killer! Post by: Zach Gomulka on February 18, 2010, 22:17:22 pm Just the oiling system alone. Ever seen how much oil they take? 7.9 gallons Title: Re: 917 Cal-look killer! I suppose they needed that much to run hard for a continued period of time. Title: Re: 917 Cal-look killer! Post by: Helge/DFL on February 21, 2010, 20:38:33 pm i found these picture in the June 1984 issue of the Porsche-Panorama-Magazine. This is no kit-car or replica. This is a real 906 Carrera. Brown paintjob, complete with Fuchs-wheels, 911 gauges, topped dash, etc. A real Hot Rod, or even something like Cal Look, I think. Does anybody know if this car is still around?
