Title: What length axles? Post by: Happychappy on February 21, 2010, 17:17:08 pm Hi
I have got a '72 Beetle that has the standard axle tubes and long castings. I am converting it to the short axle castings to give me a bit more room under the rear fenders. I want to get some Sway A Way race axles and just wanted to make sure I should go for the 61-66 short axles (short spline 26 11/16) rather than the 67 (short spline 27 13/16) medium length ones. I will soon have some brand new never used still boxed long race axles up for sale. Any help would be great. Paul :) Title: Re: What length axles? Post by: richie on February 21, 2010, 18:06:11 pm Yes,if the tubes are short earlys then short 26 11/16 are the axles you want, the 67 are one year only
cheers richie Title: Re: What length axles? Post by: Happychappy on February 21, 2010, 20:28:03 pm Thanks for clearing that up for me Richie.
I'll get ordering!! Cheers Paul Title: Re: What length axles? Post by: Ron Greiner on February 21, 2010, 21:17:59 pm the 67 axel tube castings are the same as the 68 & up swing axel castings
the difference on the 67 verses the 68 & up axles is just the snout length of the drum if you are still using the 4 lug brake drums you will have to cut 5/8" off the snout of the brake drum to use the 66 axels Title: Re: What length axles? Post by: Happychappy on February 22, 2010, 11:02:58 am I'm going to be using a CSP rear disc kit which I bought sometime ago when I was going to use the longer axles, will I have to cut the same amount off those aswell do you know?
Sorry for all the dumb questions. Cheers Paul Title: Re: What length axles? Post by: Ron Greiner on February 23, 2010, 08:47:40 am If the rear disc kit was made for the long axel long snout axel, you will have to machine the snout down,
its about the thickness of the axel nut, you will have to mock it up first and measure it Title: Re: What length axles? Post by: Happychappy on February 23, 2010, 11:09:11 am Great, thanks for your help.
