Not sure who the original owner was but I was told by Ray Walker that pat Mcdermot baught the car and Ray told me pat and himself drove the car a few times at terminal island,  he always told me it was a funny little car.

Hey Fabs, like that early shot of the Little Giant Killer and the Jumbo Shrimp.  It is amazing how well my ecktachrome slides preserved the look of both cars in that shot.

Someone already did!

If I'm not mistaken it is fully restored by now. It is the very nice Yellow car running Erco wheels of the late Mark Borden, a good friend of FiatDude. I suppose it is still in the family's possesion.

Oops, i have to stand corrected the yellow car and the Shrimp are not one and the same. Though both have been owned by Pat McDermott of blue fiat 850 fame.

So Jumbo Shrimp should still be out there to be saved!

Owned by John Borden in Riverside CA. It was actually bought and rebuilt by Mark Borden and He had it almost done and got seriously ill and John finished it right before Mark died. These pictures were taken at Mark's memorial.  The only thing that was really holding up the completion was finding a set of front rims that would work with 124 disc's and fit on the 600 spindle/bolt pattern, when I found CMS, I had 3 sets made, one for me, one for the Bordens and the 3rd set went to Mark Christensen for a Fiat Project he still has on the shelf (literally LOL) I don't know if this was Jumbo Shrimp, but it was owned by Pat McDermitt

Just talked to Pat and this car is NOT the jumbo Shrimp car -- Pat had a great story of going to the races and just loved watching Lloyd's 'Little Giant Killer" and 'Jumbo Shrimp' -- Well, at the age of 19, he saw an ad in the recycler for a VW-powered Fiat and he knew he had to have it. Went to the guys house, walked into the back yard and into the garage and there was 'Jumbo Shrimp' -- Pat said he lost any ability to negioate down the price at that point and bought the car, it came with the trans in a box and no motor, But under the terms of the sale, Pat had to remove the name from the door. Sandman was building a full tube chassis X19 at the time, but Pat did not remember if that car was ever finished. Pat drove Jumbo Shrimp on the street (with the wheelie bars) and raced it around and got it into the 12.20's with a small 2 liter. He sold the car at some point (Pat's cell phone started to die died at this point) and he had heard that the car had got wadded up in an accident on the street and guy driving had got hurt. -- -- So JUMBO SHRIMP is gone, and the one you see here is Pat's second Fiat 600

After Pat sold the shrimp. It went to a a guy in L.A. then Anthony Vaughn purchased it and painted it Blue and then graphics were later added and the car was called blue by you. The car was then sold and then the guy who bought it crashed the car. The car could not be saved. Anthony ran a few different engine combos in the car for a while and even a turbo and even let Jack at Jacee barrow it for  a few races. LOL, that car was driven very hard.

I was just with Anthony yesterday. I'm interested to find out more, too. There was even a "Jumbo Shrimp" t-shirt. Wonder if there are any of those around?

Did he show you a picture of the car(600) on the back apron with all the wheel off the ground with the turbo motor in it ? He pulled wild wheelstands with that car. I am quite surprised it lasted as long as it did.

That's it. That is the Jumbo Shrimp. Anthony said when he bought the car the guy in L.A. the guy(butchered)Ooops sorry about that I mean radius the rear outter fenders to fit a bigger slick so Anthony said he did what he could to fix it. That is why the fenders are a little rounded over the top and they are missing the original lip at the bottom but all in all he did a decent job. Notice the roll bar...

I remember when Jack Sachette was racing the blue Fiat.At Sacto he had a 1776cc (so he said..) with a boatload of NOS. It was probably a 10 sec car.  He would just put the dial in of whoever he was racing on it & fender race all day long. This was probably '85 or so, long before Jaycee Ent. Sure were fun times back then.

1776 on alot of nitrous, that sounds about right. It was is the 10's. LOL, the bottle weighted as much as the car did.The car probally weight 1100lbs. That is Jack racing it in the picture.

Jack sold it to a guy name Johnny that ended up Painting it black and backhalfing the car and putting a turbocharged 13b rotary with a Dave Folts live axle in it mid engine configuration.  I bought it from his brother in law and had it for 4 years than I had to part with it to get my business going. It needed alot of work and I was going to return it to vw power since the rotary needed a radiator up front and it ran too hot running the long tubing to transfer the water from the front to the back and it had no room for the driver at all unless you were 5.8 and 130 lbs. I will try to post a picture of the car. I am currently trying to find it again to buy it back. It was perfect candidate for a tube frame due to how much was cut out of it.

10.50 something, right? Stupid NHRA rules that many have adapt i guess.. dont understand why as long as safety is taken care of, guess they just being afraid of getting their butts kicked by a mini-car.
I rather run an 10-11 second 600 with a pro built, full certified rollcage, than a 13 second bug with a china-made rollbar only.
I will keep building mine anyway, and if all the tracks at reachable distance from home will outlaw it, well - then i`ll stretch the front 11,3" just for the hell of it, or convert it to a freakin altered.

Pretty much spot on, Peter Englezos has run 10.42, not sure of the mph, but he was told not to go quicker than 10.50 in competition.  RWYB is a different matter tho!

My Fiat was outlawed due to wheelbase lenght but I persisted with NHRA and eventually they let me run. Sometimes it pays to be a pain in the ass.

You know that rule is only in effect IF you have a non-Fiat engine in the car --- IF you stuck in of those modern Fiat turbo engines in the car the wheel base would be legal
