Title: Dry Sump
Post by: Steve DKK on March 11, 2010, 00:34:43 am
Anyone know the displacement of a mellings oil pump?

I'm designing a dry sump pump and want to base the output on the mellings pump.

IIRC, the cast-iron Melling pump has 30mm gears.
But you really don't need that much gear with a dry-sump unit... and then 'less is more' takes over  ;)

Hi

BAS in germay makes pumps like you want to do. I do not like the way they are but if you want one i have a new for sale - very cheap - so you save the work...

I make my own with 26 mm on the pressure side and 38mm on the other side. They have only one intake and one exaust .

I worked for Autocraft machine back in the 80s and i thought they plugged the two holes in the case where it interfaced with the stock pump.
Thus having two seperate pumps with two seperate inlets and outlets.

how does yours work?

Mine has 2 big oil galleries inside the pump. From the tank on the right side of the pump the oil gets through the pressure pump into the case , On the left side it goes from the pickup tube back into the tank , most through cooler and filter first .
