Title: Just another brown split Post by: splitblitz on March 23, 2010, 19:21:08 pm Well, I thought I could show some of my work with my 1951 split bug. I have been in to Volkswagen for more then 20 years and have always wanted to build some kind of "outlaw cal-look of my own". I have collected parts for many years for this project and had started with a ghia as a project. Anyway, at the same time I felt bored with rust welding a 1951 split bug come up that was supposed to me "almost" rust free.
(http://i41.tinypic.com/124klky.jpg) I sold the ghia, kept the good parts, and bought the split. I took the body off the pan and started to work with it. There where of course a lot more rust then I supposed, but I decided to keep this car, I was in love. (http://i39.tinypic.com/35ko1gh.jpg) (http://i40.tinypic.com/1roge8.jpg) After a winter of welding, the car was ready to send to the body shop. I had also raised the floor above the transmission since I am going to use a mendeola that are 1" raised it will need a lot of space. (http://i39.tinypic.com/35koad1.jpg) While the body was at the paint shop I finnished the pan. Narrowed frontbeam with NEAL discs/wilwood calipers. JAMAR discs in back. (http://i44.tinypic.com/21oo2zo.jpg) The engine for this project is bought on this forum from Beetle Bug. And old swedish race engine built by JPM and Eero Antilla. 2386 dynoed to 286hp. (http://i41.tinypic.com/2z71imd.jpg) Here are some pics of how it looks today. Excuse for my bad english, but I thought it would be fun to show you guys what´s going on far up north in Sweden! Unfortunatily I wont make it to SCC this year cause of a wedding (and they didn't wont to move the wedding to Gardermoen ...). Anyway, have started to prepare the wiring of the electrics and some other small stuff before I go the the mountains for some skiing for a week!

I know it can be quite hard when it is 15 - 20 below 0 outside. Looks like you have you skis ready for some fun action. Enjoy and turn you focus toward the car when it is a little warmer outside. Title: Re: Just another brown split Post by: splitblitz on December 22, 2010, 11:24:17 am Thanks! Yes , I got a lot of work on the house, and it feels that this thing called "Life" takes a lot of time right now. And yes, I got a pair of "Telemark" skiis waiting for me :D Hopefully I will come back! Had to much projects in life the last 15 years ...
