Title: pic from circa 1991: my 1970 Scab Bus
Post by: Jim Ratto on March 24, 2010, 00:24:59 am
this was taken @ Point Reyes NP up in Northern CA around fall 1991. Bus was almost bulletproof. 1679cc single port, new AS41 case, std crank, stock cam, stock 30mm carb. Not fast but as reliable as the sun.

I too was afflicted with the type 2 syndrome. Here's my new 74 bus.....the biggest POS I ever owned.

subsequent to my '70 Bus, I picked up a '71 Westfalia (not pop top) that came with a hodge podge 1776 that was made up of some good parts, but ran like crap. I took the 1679 out of the '70, converted it to dual ports and added Kadrons and added a small Mesa to full flow circuit. Ran much much better. After I sold the '71 to a friend, I bought an '85 Wasserboxer Vanagon. Whole different level.
Sheep's 1914 was based on many of that parts that were in the 1776 that came with the Westfalia.

I had a 1970 Bay too - a Dormobile converted pop-top. Had a 2-litre type 4 motor, horrifically bad paint (gold, bronze and metallic red stripes over white!) and an interior (including the front seats!) trimmed with material your grandmother would have on her living room sofa. But it towed my race car all over the place, got used as a daily driver and eventually got written off when the brakes stuck on and I rear-ended a Vauxhall Astra! I managed to close up the door gaps all down one side! I knew that the insurance company would write the bus off if it looked too badly damaged, so I jacked out a load of damage with a trolley jack, then realised the chassis rails were rotten so had to push all the damage back in again! :D
Awesome bus at the time, but I wouldn't want another one! (I wouldn't want another T25 either!) ;)

That blue Bus looks like the one the Libyans drove in Back to the Future!
