dose anybody know the thread used on the bottom of the stock gas tank?  also dose it change with different years?

i hate those adaprers!!! there a nightmare! so you fit the adapter then you need a 90deg fitting witch makes the fitting too close to the track rod arms!!!!  so im going to be making some that are 90deg on the fitting ;)

if your are making some up I'll have one in AN - 8

I've an early ghia tank in the garage. I also have a spare tank fitting in the garage somewhere for my early 70's bug I'll see if it fits on the ghia tank for you tonight

Don't you just tap the bottom of the tank with 1/4" NPT?  Then use a 1/4" NPT to -6 or -8 line.

Great trick..Hint, it's very, very easy to crack the housing by tapping too deep. ;)

Did that on my current tank, new tank has welded bung.

just tried it on my 56 ghia tank and it fits . the CB description says all tanks to '79

The size does not change. I've used a 59 tank which originally had the reserve tap lever through the bulkhead in a later car with standard pipe take off. Don' know the thread size but it's very fine.

VDub parts sell a blue anodized AN -6 and -8 adapter made from ally which is alot shallower then the one on the Samba ad from M-Tech. Richie got me one last year when i changed all my lines to AN and he recommended it. I use a 90 degree -8 fitting and it clears the tunnel and track rods ok.

If you are going to make one you'd have to make it a 90 degree direct fitting with swivel so it can be turned as to where you'd want it to exit. I doubt you could do that with a solid short 90 degrees machined piece and then get the nut over it. Basically it'd has to be a normal 90 degree tube style bend with a tank sized nut rather than the usual AN size. Quite a lot of work involved i think.

Hi guys,

don't know if this is an option or not, but I welded one half of a male-male -10 fitting to the bottom of the tank in my ghia and used the stock fitting as the return - seemed to work OK for me.

I basically cut the male thread off one half, welded it on the outside and then drilled through after - was then easy to fit a tight 90deg -10 elbow straight on, was lower profile than the stock fitting...

Lanny is correct. I went through 2 tanks on my ghia from cracking the first one. Back then, those fittings werent available and I had to tap the tank.

I'm sure you will. Let us know when its done. Off course 1 adaptor less is 1 potential leak less.

The threads on the tank outlet are M18 x 1mm.

I believe it's M20x1.0.  I made my own out of the stock nut, but you can buy them too, obviously.  I like the 1/4" npt method too.......I've done it both ways.

The guy at Speedflow told me it was M18x1mm, that was on a fuel tank from a 67 Beetle.

ok, so this is the ProTurbo tank adapter im now selling :)

it has 4 X 3/8NTP outs, that ill allow from -6 to -10 :) so you can run two -10 out to your efi fuel pumps, a -8 return and a -6 to drain the fuel from your tank :) perfect
or
if you only want one out, just plug the ones your not using with NTP plugs
you can use the standard intank filter and washers :)
