Title: New wheels for my '67 - Opinions wanted
Post by: lowfastbus on April 11, 2010, 19:40:03 pm
Bought a set off centerlines at the Volksworld show.
3.5 x15 and 5 x 15 with a large offset.
Planning on using 135 tires up front, for the back I'm hesitating.
Tried using the same size as on my Torkers 205/70 15 but I'm not sure off the results
What smaller tires would you guys advice?

I've been using 195/65 for years with my 5in. Flat-4 BRMs.  I like them and the way they look.  For a street car they are fine.  I just don't get the biggest tire I can fit thing.  The Bergler had 185/70s in the rear and 155r in the front when Gary sold it.

I think they suit your gold paint perfect.  Tires look great...fill the wheel-well nicely.

With a 5" rim I'd use 195 70's , sit a bit taller than the 205's " so you got a better top end " and won't bulge out quite so much as they be a bit narrower .
These are  Michielin 195 70's on mine

IMO they sit nice on my 6" rim no bulge , would think they would suit a 5" well too .
The tyre sits nice inside the wing so when you launch it bogs down nice and won't catch the wing .

Black sheep- A 195 70 will sit lower than a 205 70, the 70 is an aspect ratio of the width and diameter, so a 195 70 would be a similar height to a 205 65.

Lowfastbus, a 205 65 would look good on there, but I think what you have looks pretty good too.

I tried to find 195/70's or 195/75's, and was told no one was making them anymore.  It's now an odd ball size, so I went w/ 205/70's.......they fill the wheel well, well.

If you're looking for a cool wheel, find something "different".   8)

I beg to differ , aspect ratio can be a funny thing , just offered up my 205 70's from last year against the 195 70's and the 195's are a clear 3/4" taller  ;)
Pix to follow .

People struggle to achieve the look you have with your centerlines and 205`s. Keep as is, hard and mean.

Both size tyres fitted to rims and inflated??  ???
There are often discrepencies between tyre manufacturers, like shoe sizes, but a 195 70 shouldnt be 3/4" taller than a 205/70.

Hi Jelle,

Centerlines rock! Especially on a dechromed car like yours there is no other rim looking meaner than Centerlines.
IMHO it looks good with the Bridgestones but I would prefer a littler narrower tire. The Michelins shown by Black Sheep are looking great! I would look for 185/70, 195/70 or 185R15 tires.
See you in Hannover in 3 weeks?!

Tobi

I looked at different tires and probably go with some 205 70 but from goodyear.
There are some cool looking 185 and 195/70 tires around but all at a hefty price.
The plan is to raise the rear 1-2cm like JHU suggested, would do this with adjustable springplates.
Is there a negative way to doing it this way?

Jelle

I've always been partial to Cetnerlines, and think they look perfect on your car!   8)

Jelle finally made the right decision  ;D

No, not really, he needed my Borms as the centerlines leak and we wanted to get to Pat's Open house without having to take a foot pump. Actually this shows how wheels can make or break a car, the centerlines really are the best wheels for this piece of junk  :P

no it doesn't look 'right' with the BRMs to me. it just might have been a different car and in my opinion a bit boring with these. Centerlines are the way to go on that car, if i have a vote.
