Title: engine lid stand offs for 61 beetle!!!!! Post by: curly on May 03, 2010, 00:35:13 am hello all,
and me first post, well just joined as was bit of voyeur before.....! ;D back to me question! i have a 61 beetle, and want to fit stand offs, it has two nuts holding the deck lid on....well ya probably know that... is there anywhere in the uk, you can buy stand offs, or would i be better making me own, has anyone here down this before, the car did have them at one point, as i have some pics of it, with the deck lid sticking out at the top! thanks all in advance! however! i have some, but they have three screw holes, and me deck lid hinges have two which are in a line, so i don't want to drill holes in me hinges, unless you can buy others stand off plates, for earlier cars???? You do not undo the hinge on the engine lid, you must undo the bracket that fits up inside the vent of the engine bay, this has 3 screws. You then attach the standoff to the car, and then screw the bracket to the standoff. Title: Re: engine lid stand offs for 61 beetle!!!!! wether you like them or not , stand-offs still help to cool your engine on hot summer days when your doing some motorway cruising or drag racing. They can bring your oil temp down for more than 15°C which can make the difference . Trouble is , when the lid is open , your engine bay has no protection when it is standing in heavy rain or just in a parking lot. Mounting stand-offs is not allways so easily done . Sometimes it's even nicer to have the lid closed ...makes your bug clean and smooth. That's why I modified my hinges so I can simply open the lid , slide them out (or in) and close the lid again . Changing just takes about 10 seconds . I just added a picture where you can see the 1/2 hinge with the sliding device. the other 1/2 hinge is on the lid with the sliding rod. Marc[attachment=1] |
