Coooooooooool a quarterly Classic Porsche ;D ;D ;D

Back to VW now. One day you should tell us about the preparations of that trip. I am sure everybody want to know what it takes to realise what is probably THE dream of many loungers.
Enjoy the rest of your stay.

Back home now, I'm afraid!  :(

I'll be doing a series in Ultra VW about the trip, planning, shipping etc, so watch this space! :)

Very cool, Keith. Thanks for sharing. The only thing better than standing on the sidewalk and hearing and seeing that squadron go by is being with the group in an flat four powered, IDA car!

Oh MAN... can you imagine if one of us was rich enough to have a movie camera back then, Rick? We'd have some epic footage of those HUGE caravans... sometimes up past forty cars. Especially with many of the people that used to hang out with our club, back then and their cars. Then, if we had movies of some of those infamous parties... WOW. Would make for some big-time comedic material, now.

 ;D

This thread is not about DKK boys....  It is about Keith, imagining for years what it would be like to cruise the streets of OC in his own ride.  So, he packs his car in a portable tuna can and ships it 1000's of miles across the Atlantic, receives posession of the ride in Cali.  Then the DKP boys rally the troops, set up a killer weekend and WHAMMO..... he's a cruisin down the street in OC.  Now we all imagine how cool that would be to have everyone of those rides be a DKP quality car.  Taking up both lanes, driving with no hands while making a video of a moment in time he will never forget.

Good for you Keith.  It was an amazing effort put forth that appeared to pay off in great memories.

How about I ship my ride to France and cruise the round a bout at the Champs Elysees, or rip thru Lancaster Gate in London.  You bet I would be thrilled.

My Great Grandmother I was told was tough old bitty.  She would see a car or house or something she was fond of and was known to say, "if I had that (blank) and he had a feather up his ass, we'd both be tickled..."

So stoked to see you pull it off... Awesome!  I'm tickled for yah.

Worm, you're totally correct... my point is that I'm very happy that Keith got to carry out his dream/mission and even document it with still photos and even video. Hopefully, the good times and great memories outweigh the negative aspects that he had to put up with at U.S. Customs.

Thanks guys – it was worth the hassle (and unplanned extra expense) just to live that dream. I know it must seem odd to you OC guys, but for we 'Euro-Brits', this is something special. To make it happen, I sold a lot of my memorabilia, eBay'd some other trinkets and generally went without for some months. In case anyone thinks different, I don't earn a fortune (probably less than the supposed 'national average' these days!), don't smoke, never go on holiday and have a list as long as my arm of work still to do on my house. I just determined that I was going to make this happen, somehow, someday. Without the kick up the backside from Russell and, then, Jo, it would probably still not have happened. But it did.

All I can say is, if I can do it, then so can anyone. It just takes determination and sacrifice. Be prepared to give up a little to gain a lot. Unless you're somebody 'fortunate' enough to inherit money, or be given big lump sums for birthdays, it's down to each of us as individuals to make our dreams come true. The gain will always outweigh the pain…

Now roll on VW Classic… :)

How long does the car and you remain in US then?  :)

How did the insurance work out, does your British insurance cover driving in US?

I'm back home now, but the car is in the Schleys' garage until I go out for Classic.
Temporary insurance was by arrangement with UK company for up to 60 days at a time.
