Title: What do you use to clean terminals at the fuse block and headlight switch?
Post by: Brandon Sinclair on May 07, 2010, 07:56:50 am
I have an original harness and if you look at the terminals on the wires they look kind of corroded and could use a cleaning if not a new connector.  What do you use to clean the terminals and male connectors-sandpaper, rubbing alcohol, a fiberglass brush or brass brush, or maybe electronic spray contact cleaner or something else?  Also if I need to replace some wire ends is there some kind I should be looking for in the stores that are the best to use besides the tin ones available everywhere?   I have been dreading doing this job but I am going to take a few hours and clean up the spaghetti wiring and zip tie eveything nice and neat.  Thanks.

Ultrasonic cleaner for the fuseblock, soap and a brush for the headlight switch, and the correct metal terminals can be purchased from Wurth.
I believe Wurth has an online catalog. Otherwise, I know you guys have killer hardware and electrical supply houses out there ... Mcfadindale Hardware? That place is the BOMB. ;)

Tom,

What cleaning solution mix did you use in your ultrasonic cleaner for the fuse block?  Thanks.

Hey Brandon ...

I just use the general purpose cleaner for these types of things or the mc-1 cleaner works well to. Actually, the GP cleaner is harder on aluminum that the MC-1!
Those cleaners are fantastic. Just slip your hand in there when its a little warm ... pretty freaky feeling ... almost electric. Excellent for carbs, pistons, rods too ... that's what I got it for.

Good to meet you.
Take care,
TxT

I concur with Tom, try Wurth products Contact SW and Contact OL. They work very well where mechanical means are inappropriate (late model cars with multi pin
connectors).

Also Wurth Cockpit Cleaner works nicely on new car dashboards....(it's not some spray silicone crap)

In fact I've been happy with every Wurth product or tool I ever used.  ;)
