I timed the ignition static using a buzzer and the "timing card" that came with the mag from Joe Hunt. My advice would be to carefully listen to pinging and if heard back off a couple of degrees.

Its an msd dizzy, ive set it to 32 degrees at max advance which gives an idle timing at 8 degrees (smallest advance bush fitted). And worked my way up the springs till it stops pinking on acceleration (ended up with one heavy silver and one light silver), it starts advancing at 1350rpm. Its a 2387cc fitted with an fk87 in a full weight type3 running on super unleaded, so do the settings ive ended up with seem ok or should the advance start a bit earlier?. It runs cool and pulls well. Cheers PJ Title: Re: timing setting Post by: dyno don on May 08, 2010, 19:06:49 pm congrats..!! just a matter of "fine line tweaking" from this point on. when running race fuel you will need to read the plugs with a magnifier to see down into the plug to see any results...and rememember proper plug type(use a colder plug) and correct gap with any aftermarket ignition !!
