Title: ball joint lowered 356 spindles - sold!
Post by: simon uk on February 26, 2007, 14:13:18 pm
Hi chaps I have a set of these that were custom made in the states. I am not entirely sure what my plans are with my front end, but may consider selling these spindles on. I had a set of front B brakes a year or so ago and sold them on before they were installed.

I have tried it before, and it is not possible to fit 356 brakes, which lets be honest are the coolest set up out there, to a ball joint front end (the spindles are too short), but these spindles let you do just that, and they have a drop built in of about 2.5 to 3 inches.

I seem to recall I paid about £100 for them a few years ago and they have been sat in my garage since. If you are interested drop me a pm and maybe we could work something out.

Cheers, Si.

Those sound really cool Si! If I had the coin right now they would be on their way to Arizona :) Where did you have them made?

I put a thread on samba a couple of years ago asking if someone knew where I could get something to make them fit and a guy in the states came back saying he had some custom made a year or two before and that he trial fitted them, then pulled them off, so I could have them if I wanted! I couldnt believe my luck so sent the money over. As I say, I had a real nice set of B fronts and the backing plates fit perfect, I recall the bearing fit was good, and the retaining nut needed to be opened out slightly but just needed a re-tap. The missus then went and booked a holiday and told me she needed some cash from me to pay for it, so I sold the brakes on :-(

Obviously 356 brake parts do come up for sale in the USA fairly often, but the weight of them means the postage cost isnt feasable, and they are very rare to find in the uk, so accruing another set is difficult to do. Presumably, this means you could also fit pre 65 bug brakes (why would you though), and also those mad looking maico discs, which I wouldnt mind trying!

If anyone fancies the swap, I could do with getting hold of some cb ball joint lowered drum brake spindles, and you could have these?
