Title: What systems do you prefer for a fast launch on the quarter mile?
Post by: Fredy Kucmocht on May 17, 2010, 06:55:05 am
Hi!

What systems do you prefer for a fast launch on the quarter mile? Line lock on the front wheels or a staging brake on the rear wheels? I have got the feeling when I use the line lock when staged that the car has a tendency to move forward when releasing the clutch slightly to tense the gear box.
Working with the handbrake gives a better feeling.
Please tell me your experiences.

kind regards

Fredy

I always used my handbrake, mainly because my linelock was just a hydraulic valve in the front brake lines, and I could release the handbrake quicker. Make sure that the brakes are adjusted properly though, I once had one back brake release slightly before the other which sent the car quite sideways off the line! :D

I have my handbrake rigged up as a hydraulic line to the front wheels. I tape up the release knob on the handbrake so that it can't engage the ratchet mechanism. I then preload the trans whilst on the handbrake. No creeping and seems to work quite well for me.

link linelock switch with 2-step launch control with your ignition box...

Mash throttle whilst preload trans on linelock/brakes

let go of clutch and linelock simultaneously and unleash your beast!

I've always wondered whether you could even use a linelock on a hydraulic clutch and literally launch on a single button...?

thats a quite interesting idea, and it could work, releasing pressure on clutch and brakes in one go sounds fast ans quite easy to do. but maybe too much help there will be and less human power involwed in the driving :)

I use the handbrake for staging/taking the strain on the line whilst holding the release button (this activates the launch control) ride the clutch a little with foot to the floor. When the lights drop release handbrake and pray for traction  ;D
Heres a pic of the launch control switch on the bottom of the handbrake

That's similar to what I did Rich, except I had a small bar coming out of the back of the handbrake and the microswitch mounted on the tunnel just behind.
