Title: Sequential Gearbox?
Post by: Basti on May 18, 2010, 12:25:24 pm
Hey Guys!

Did anybody try a sequential gearbox in a beetle?
Which one would you use?

Iīm thinking about a Hewland MK9 but like to know your opinions...

Cheers,

Basti

That would be a dream mmmm ;) Only person I know that runs a sequential box is this guy http://www.rojoracing.nl/car.html (http://www.rojoracing.nl/car.html) But it looks like a lot of home brewed engineering on it  :o

How about using a vertigate shifter set-up powered by CO2? Have the gearshift fired by the shift light!

@Martin: the MK 9 should be good for 220nm..thatīs all ;(
Do you have any other systems??

@Neil: how about a sequential gearbox which shifts automaticly at the revs you want? ;)

Here is one that will work, they run LS1 Chevy behind it also has a Bell Housing for the VW. Looks like a Mendy and is sold at Rancho Performance Transmissions.

Thats what I thought, connect the shift light to a couple of wires so as soon as the light comes on you get an output signal. I suppose an MSD rpm-operated switch would do the same job... The signal could tell a CO2 cylinder to shove the shiftrod into the gearbox, and each time the light came on it would change up a gear. The trick would be to get the shift working properly - I think you'd need a three-position cylinder to go from 1st through neutral into second, then the shift from second to third would require pulling the first shiftrod out of 2nd into neutral while banging the next shiftrod from neutral into third. I suggested the vertigate because I know that has seperate input rods but I don't know what cleverness goes on inside the nosecone!

Yeah spoken to them too!

I have got a design for a sequential shifter ready to produce, Im going to be testing it in my car at the end of the year.

as for a sequential box, thats just in the CAD. there will be a T1 version as well as a T2. so you can swop out your old gear set and pop in a new one! (well peter can;) )

Hello

I remember of a german company with a website called "secrets of speed" which used to advertise sequential gearboxes for beetles, this was some 3 years ago and I can't find it any more, does anyone has any info on that one?

I talked to the guys of www.fastspeed.nl
They are converting 930s gearboxes, which doesnīt sound so bad.

The american version isnīt a cheap deal...but looks very sweet.
Did anybody bought one of these?
