Title: problem with 4-1 headers
Post by: beetletom on May 20, 2010, 19:22:54 pm
hi, who makes the best 4-1 headers?

i've tried to fit 2 recently, and both were way off!

one was a bug pack, and the flanges for the heat riser pipes were warped! so that got cut up...

and refitted my kadron header with single quietpack
and its way out of shape! non of the heat riser flanges lined up! and the main exhaust flanges didnt meet up with both bolt holes!

would it be best to loosen off the heat exchangers?
and refit some exhaust studs?? or just buy a brand new header?

I always had good luck with Bugpack, sounds like that must have been a fluke or something?  In my experience, also, the heat risers on a typical heater box header don't function nearly as well as those on a stock muffler.  My only advise to you is to stay away from EMPI/Mr. Bug crap.  They make the worst exhaust systems (and just about anything else, other than factory repackaged parts) on the planet, yet they continue to thrive because so many folks shop by price rather than quality.

I've got an S&S Header single quiet pack on my 1776 and its' hands down the best system I've ever had.  Unfortunately, they're closing their doors, from what I'm to understand and haven't made VW stuff in a long time because of all the cheapskates out there buying China made crap.

Kymco makes good stuff, I hear, and of course Tiger at A-1.  But again, I've also always had good experiences with Bugpack.
