Title: What gear ratios?
Post by: gyles on June 01, 2010, 19:54:14 pm
Seeing as how I have just bust my gearbox on the strip, now is an opportunity to put together something a bit more bespoke.

Just an open question as to what ratios and internals any loungers have experience with that work well in their own boxes.  I am running a 200hp motor with nearly as much torque and want something I can take for a run on the street in the evening and then spank on the track at the weekend.

Thoughts and suggestions please.

JMR has a gear calculator on his website: http://www.johnmaherracing.co.uk/gearcalc.htm

Rear tire size is an important factor to consider.  But remember that your 4 speed ratios are always a compromise between street drivabilty and track use.

Hi Dean.  I had a word with Peter over the weekend, gonna ring him sometime once I get brave enough to drain the gritty syrup from my box and see what damage is done  :'(  Just thought I would ask around and see what experience people have themselves.

Boom Boom; I thought real men didn't use hairdryers  :P

If you can- 5 speed with .89 5th on 3,88 r and p

I run a short short 4th at the moment to save the 5 speed on the track but it does mean I drive less now- before 1000 to Cornwall and back was fine but too short a 4th and it borders pushes the limits of "street car" really.

The perfect ratios.
3.78, 2.31, 1.65, 1.31, .89
3.88 R&P  ;D
Just ran a 12.7 on Sunday now retired the car to enjoy on the street.
