Title: Old School Bmx Event / Bellflower, Ca
Post by: Hecker on June 03, 2010, 00:29:50 am
Just a heads up to anyone in the So Cal area...there is an Old School Bmx event this Saturday
June 5th at Bellflower BMX track / Hollywood Park Paintball Arena. I got the info from the
BMX Society website. There will be a special tribute to JMC founder Jim Melton. They are also
going to have sidehack races & Veteran / Old BMX'r races. If you are interested,  I'm going to
be there for sure. If you need more info Pm me & I'll get back to you.
I'd like to take this time to beg anyone that has old SWATCH watches to bring them out.
My collection needs some vintage stuff. So, dig thru your junk drawer & bring em.  :D

Funny thing I noticed here.....75 people took the time to read this,
and not one person made even the slightest comment. Hmmmm,
leads credence to my "thread killer" status !!!! What-- no former BMX
fans or was it asking for SWATCH that scared you away??  I noticed
on the Bugs for Breakfast thread, I got 1  comment about the BMX
from a very active poster. I find it interesting.....Replies -- please ?

Sorry, HECKER... I couldn't make that event. I was in Carlsbad, all day/night, at a skateboard event and later... a skateboard industry art show. Those bmx things always fall on dates when I have stuff already planned. I used to race those bikes back in the late '70s and had a ton of frames and related components, because I worked at the local bike shops before working at Les Purnell's German Car Repair when I built my '66.

The Bellflower track is very close to where I live, too. My girlfriend's brother also runs the Whittier Narrows track if anyone's ever interested in taking a few runs. I got on a 24" S.E. bike on that track, a couple of years back. His sons compete in their twenties and they still do well. They even let the old guys like our age compete. I was surprised to learn that a few of the pros that rode back when I did are still competing.

But don't take the no reply thing too personally, HECKER... sadly, that's part of the Internet. It happens, sometimes. I know that there are lot of Lounge members that collect bmx stuff.
