Title: Oil filter and Super Competition
Post by: low61 on June 26, 2010, 21:37:25 pm
Hello!

Who has experience with a full flow oil filter in combination with CSP Super Competition exhaust system in a VW Beetle?
Yesterday I spent some time under my car, but have not yet found a perfect place for the oil filter bracket and nor the hose guide.
The preferred placement under the fender to the bumper bracket does not really work because of the muffler there.
Does anyone have such a configuration in use?
For many answers and tips, possibly with a photo I would be grateful!

Alex

I know it is not the common exhaust choice for Cal Look cars, but it is necesarry to get a mot.
Probably switch it to a dual muffler by csp afterwards.

to get an impression of the actual situation I attached a picture

I use Dunlop flame shield around the hoses to secure them. And yes, it is a PITA to get around that system, as it is so compact.

How about mounting the filter on the fan shroud, 356 style? I know this will depend on the carb linkage you use, but it might work?

With some well thought out plumbing and a simple bracket, the filter assy can fit directly below the distributor, under the tin.

sorry to hijack, larry did you shorten the thread of the brass fitting to get it installed in the case that far?
very innovative position by the way!

I don't think the brass fitting is modified, the case was done by Brothers Machine in SoCal, sleeved lifter bores also. 2332 EFI :)

so finally this is my solution:

after some measuring I welded a bracket. Worked real well at first testdrives. and it got the right looks (imho) as you can see the filter from the rear  ;D

Are you running sled tin? Seems like if you were, you would heat up your oil more than needed.
