The Cal-look Lounge

When I was building a new motor this spring for my 58 euro rag I wanted a motor that had the look of a 70's kadron/356 style motor. I found an old set of Kadrons on the Samba and had them gone through, I sent the old style air cleaner parts to O.C. plating and had them chromed. I know the newer K&N filters are good but do not like the look. I found a vintage pair of Truehauft aluminum manifolds. I used a 36hp style dog house shroud. I found an old 356 oil filter system and converted it to a breather by spacing the top up a touch. I painted the Bosch blue coil black so it looks like an old 6v unit. I went with dual muffs vs a newer turbo style muffler. I think the outcome is a nice looking motor that matches the car.

i like the breather! the only part it's missing is a kadron linkage IMO.

Looks like the OG Kadron linkage wont fit with the breather there.  That motor looks a lot like something I had way back when (only this one here is a lot nicer).  Cool.  I like it

That is a nice looking engine. A good friend of mine is currently collecting parts along the same lines. He's going for a 1955-era Porsche (Typ528) 1500 look, sort of... Weber 40DCNF care of Dave Galassi, 36hp shroud, one off air filters/velocity stacks, Porsche 356 pulley, filter. Going in '56 Beetle.
I really like your engine's appearance. One thing, and not a criticism... the factory VW oil filler might look even better in there, or adapt the Porsche 912 one.  :)

the colour would not be my choice, but i was done like this back in the day, so it al works out OK, the only thing i miss is a normal fuelpump. other the that it looks good in my book.

The generator works great so why replace it, and it was the look I wanted. The color matches the interior and gas tank. Thanks for all the comments I appreciate them, they will help me improve the car.

i love the speaker in the glove box with the head unit ,got me thinking now  ;D

The other tweeter is behind the speaker grill by the speedo, the amp is mounted under the passenger seat. The other speakers are mounted in a box behind the back seat. The system sounds great.
