Title: What diffs do you run?
Post by: autohausdolby on August 05, 2010, 10:06:03 am
I'm missing my old race car so thoughts have turned to building something new for some strip action. I'm going to look at a Cali import '65/'66 this weekend which looks pretty good so thoughts have turned to what I'm going to put in it. It'll be street legal but probably flat towed to the strip.

Funds won't go as far as a fully built gearbox straight away so I was wondering it'll tow OK with a spool. Will it make it a nightmare? One wheel burnouts aren't my thing  :P

Here's a photo of my old car to make the thread more intereresting

Always like your car! For me it captured the spirit off the less known racecars off the 70s.

Yep, I sold it because I bought a Porsche to do roundy roundy racing then realised that I really like VWs, not Porsches  ;D Plus the acid dipping of the Porsche did not go as well as I'd hoped :(

I miss the bug, it was a cool car! 16.4 with a stock 1600 :D I was getting round to building a bigger motor for it, when I sold it I'd got a Cogbox built tranny, Ercos and slicks in it. I think it belongs to the last owner of Bug Catcher now, he works for Volvo here in the UK.

Offer to buy it back dude ;) worth a shot ...or pick up one of the many class gassers that RR has for sale ...

It's not to my taste now - last I heard it was semi-tube chassis and IRS :)

I've looked at RR's cars and seriously considered them, but I want something that is at least slightly streetable should I desire it. Or, more to the point I think that's what I want  I might change my mind after a couple of runs! I'm thinking of lights, wipers, that sort of thing. If I was going to do another full on race car I'd just buy a junker or a shell and work from that - at least you're not killing a decent car then :)

I wondered what had happened to you Matt! :D It could have been worse - my car got cut up and scrapped. >:(
Just proving my "small world" theory, the Ercos, slicks and built box came from my car, and I had the BRMs off El Mart Kart, but not as swaps, as two seperate transactions several months apart! :D

Nice to hear from you Neil! Are you racing in/building a car for O/FF?

So it looks like I might be building a street legal Cal-looker as I've found a base car that looks pretty good. So what diffs do people run on the street? I'm a bit out of touch with what's available and from where :)
