Many were left natural aluminium, as well. The military wouldn't have gone to the trouble of polishing an entire bomber. It was more correct before the polishing, they shoud have just left it that way :-\

Just like when you are told in the army to keep your boots brush shined, but polished them to a mirror lustre, only on a grand scale.  Esprit  de Corps!

If you like Maj Gen Lyons aircraft, you should see his automobiles  :o. Or his humble abode in Coto de Caza  :o.
Fortunately he enjoys sharing some of his treasures with those of us who can appreciate them.
