fuchs always look good, and man i wish i had a nice set.

p.s. i wouldn't mind owning the other ones either... just don't like erco and wheels of that kind

fuch's are undoubtably nice wheels but i agree, they are EVERYWHERE.

i kind of feel that they are a "safe" choice...a little, dare i say it....lazy.

I like a bunch of differrent wheels but both our cars are stuck with Porsche pattern ones as the quality of something like Fuchs can't be beaten.  I think I have evidence that Gas Burners can take a hammering too.

 :)

don't forget about 8 spokes !!!

i really like the look of the deano's or centerlines but with 4 bolts it doesn't look as good. the rims is a bit too filled.

From the list, it's gotta be American Racing in either wide 5 or porsche fitment.

but you've also missed off 2 litre alloys ;D

I guess that there could have been 50 different ones listed if 4 bolt wheels were listed as well! A few people are saying Torque Thrusts, but they are probably rarer and nearly as much coin as genuine BRMs! Are there any wide 5 sets in Europe?

All I Can Say Is I Love My Set Of Americans I have them on my Chevy II and a Set of wide 5's for my Cal Look And you are right Simon Wide 5 American's  are about ten times more Rare Then Original BRM'S They made a lot less of the American's then the Did BRM's

Gas Burners first - Cosmics a very close second.

American racing from the list are my personal favourite.
I've got a set of Heckmessers/Cookie Cutters. Don't know if they were used back in the day, but I think that they are ok for a late looker project.

pff....i did this thought just these days.....all the wheels are available as replica.......everyone has every wheels.....maybe we should begin to accept idea that combination of parts is not endless and that when u customize a car built in 23 million of copies.....well.....everthing you do someone did before u..... :'(

There's nothing like a good set of 205/5 Chromies with no caps. Looks aggressive.

Post by: qubek on March 15, 2007, 23:36:54 pm
I always liked BRMs, but even if I if i could afford a set of original ones, I wouldn't buy them, because they are to rare, fragile and expansive to use them on the street, every day, without stress. I know that you can do it, but IMO they're for show or museum, not for a car intended to be used frequently. Not anymore.
So I wanted to buy replicas. They look the same (I know that there are differences, but 75% of people don't see them, and further 20 % don't give a shit), they aren't expensive and you don't cry after hitting the kerb and destroying one.

But now i read here that BRM replicas are uncool. What will I do? What will I do?  :'(     ;)

And my favorite wheel? Torque thrusts

...But now i read here that BRM replicas are uncool. What will I do? What will I do...

Do what you want to do. There is a valid argument against replicas in some respects but all the points you make are also valid. Shades of gray, it's not black and white. Flat4 are the way to go on the BRM front and as a company they've been around since '76 so that gives them some kudos.

The rims I run are common and unimaginative, maybe even 'lazy', I'm fine with that!

Hell, half my life's a siesta!  :D

I gotta say... Although I love my Cosmics and I will NEVER sell them, I dont believe they are a true blue cal look wheel. They look a bit busy with the mulitple spokes, and although I havent weighed them, they are BRICKS!!! From the list above I chose Fuchs. Light with strong looks and strong construction. Would you expect anything less from Porsche?? ;)

I agree, chrome 5.5" 5 lugs with no cap looks "just right", ran my car in that fashion for years, and probably will again someday.

You wouldn't have any pics of that by any chance, would you?  ;)

Wheels are going to look good on your Car you will have to watch because the Torque Thrust have a Different Offset  and on some cars will stick out Narrowed beam time you could go disc's?

Porsche Caps Look Great On The Wheels To I Dont Know Why JGE Made such a Tall Cap in the first place The Caps stick out to far Anything is an improvement over what they come with Do you have  enough room for the Dust cap and axle nut to clear the cap?

Hey,

Yeah there is loads of room front and rear behind the caps. The front wheels sit in front of 14mm spacers in order to clear the calipers against the back of the spokes. These pics show just how much clearance is there...

So what was the general opinion of the Americans back in the day?  Clearly they were quite rare......were they considered way cool or were they too goofy to be accepted in the late 70s/early 80s?

The Original Vw Big 5 Bolts american are very rare I have heard they made less then five hundred wheels I know they made Way More BRM's  in 1975 when I was in the Orange County Clubs and hung out There I can only think of about 4 cars were running American's  and the same sets seem to be sold and end up on another car there have never been very many cars with them The Set On my Red Oval I bought from a Guy in Keep On Buggin VW Club from Long Beach back in 1977 I paid $550.00 for 5 Wheels with Original Lugs and Knock Offs I Sold that Car in 1994 for $10,000 it went to Japan Today The Wheels are going for $8,000 a set of 4  I did Keep the spare  when I sold the car
