Title: Baja for sale in my town... thread does contain a Cal-Look element! Post by: bugnut68 on September 17, 2010, 23:29:25 pm So there's this baja for sale in my town... it's yellow and built upon a pre-65 Bug, judging by the wipers and windows, but there's so much about this car that's wrong, it's not even funny.
Lots of issues with the body. Fiberglass one piece nose with cracks, looks like somebody went nuts in cutting the old sheet metal off. Open the doors and they sag, hitting the off road nerf bars on the sides. full six-point cage welded in and gussetted. Rust in the pan, some rust in the doors. Lame half-ass one-piece windows. Engine has dual Kadrons and a sedan style merged header with stinger. external oil cooler and filter, but not full flow. It was set up wtih a bypass adapter where the stock cooler would go... NICE! ::) Fan shroud with no heater hoses and outlets are not plugged. My guess is this car has been severely abused. Formuling France steering wheel and a butchered aluminum dash inside with some VDO gauges. Scat Drag Fast shifter. Only Cal Look element to this car is a set of Race Trim bolt-on valve covers. Wouldn't mind getting my hands on those, but I suspect the car is a whole deal or nothing, sort of thing. Registration expired in 1993. The sign says $2,500 plus six other parts VWs. Can't imagine what they look like...this car is an example of how non-VW people tend to approach things. Off-road? Hell, better slap an external cooler on there, less'n you want to overheat the motor! Meanwhile, they leave the heater hoses off, unplugged.[attachment=1] Title: Re: Baja for sale in my town... thread does contain a Cal-Look element! can't you sneak onto the car at night and bolt off the race trim valve covers and replace them by stock or cheap ones? judging by the overall "design" of the car, the selling wouldn't bother! This poor car has just about everything done incorrectly. Sad to see, but I was surprised to see the Race Trim valve covers on there. Hasn't been registered since 1993, so it must have purely served as someone's off-road flogging machine. |
